A;N: I know. It has been YEARS since I last updated. And you can put ALL OF THE BLAME ON ME! I will gladly take it! But just so you know, I have a ton of ideas for you, which will be revealed pretty soon! Okay! So this one isn't that bad, but I have always loved the thought of Kaneki and Hide working together as a team rather than... what happened to our precious baby before so... read on and enjoy!
The room was dark, murky, and smelled even worse since the last investigators got here. The last creatures that lived here, simultaneously known as ghouls, were already gone; but the smell and distaste of the place still lingered around. Two investigators lowered themselves down, keeping quiet, listening to anything that moves or scurries past them. Looking around the place, it seemed empty. Even the corpses that were left in here have also disappeared.
"Shit. We missed them. And uck! This place still smells of death and lemons." whispers Hide, wafting his free hand in front of his face. He stifles in a breath, puffing out some air, "Dude, I'm not so sure about this. Maybe we should call the others and bring up those fancy gadgets they mentioned. It feels as if they're still here."
Kaneki glares around the building. With only one grey eye and one red eye, he could only see the same thing as before; ruined furniture, shattered glass, and dry blood stains covering the floor. Kaneki shakes his head, sighing, "Hm. Maybe you're right. But you not wrong. There's still a funny smell around here, which is strange."
Hide looks over at Kaneki, "How come?"
Kaneki sniffs the dense air, "Because ghouls never devour the entire body, they only eat the guts, limbs, and bones. Which means that their victims are still around here, somewhere in this room. I can sense it."
Hide's breath caught in his throat, "Crap."
The mission was simple. Find the ghouls who attacked the 3rd unit from the CCG, capture them, ask them questions, and whatever they have to say, the information may come in handy to capture the most dangerous ghoul, the Eagle. It was as simple as that. But Kaneki knows these ghouls. They're sneaky, cunning, and they know how to play with a humans mind. Kaneki would know this because he was involved in a group exactly like this one.
"Look," says Kaneki, gripping onto his suitcase tightly, "All we have to do is find them and capture them. Right?" says Kaneki, turning towards Hide.
Hide nods his head, "Right."
"So we do that. But we have to be careful. The kagune's we've been given aren't made for capturing ghouls; they're made to kill them. Just be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine. Don't let your guard down and stay close to me."
Hide smirks, "Trying to keep me safe, Ken?"
Kaneki smiles, "Nah. You're just too good for me to look after. Now c'mon!"
Both Kaneki and Hide quickly ran out in their cramped position, moving quickly to the next box. The more closer they got, the more they can recognise the entire building. It was a run-down chapel; it's massive cross was on the ground, facing the other side on the cracked wall, the coloured glass shattered all over the floor and the benches covered in dust and mould. The air was dense and everything was cold and blue. It was something you would see in a horror movie.
Hide puffs out a whistle, looking over the crumbled building, "Seems to me our lord, Jesus Christ, has always been on the holy side of things."
"Don't say his name in vain, dumbass."
"Just trying to lighten up the mood, babe."
Kaneki smirks, shaking his head in amusement. For Kaneki, this was a natural faze he goes through every day, almost. And with Hide by his side, he was more comfortable and relaxed than he is around Amon. Amon was more bossy and repulsive, and that's all he could take. But with Hide, he was different.
