The day was here. Today was the day we would welcome a stranger to our home for 3 weeks. I was already sick of it. The fact that my sister fucked us up because she wanted to go to England was absolutely fucking ridiculous. These Exchange family things were bullshit. My parents were about to trade their daughter for some stranger. I would love to get rid of her, unless it meant I was getting someone else in return.
"Do we at least know the person's sex?" I asked. Couldn't bare another annoying, teenage girl. I was crossing my fingers in hope to get a guy in return for my stupid sister.
"Of course that's what you want to know." My sister said, rolling her eyes.
"Well, obviously. I don't want to deal with another girl like you."
"Mom, Ashton's picking up on me again!"
"Thank fucking God you're going away for 3 weeks."
"Money jar, Ashton. Don't forget about it." Mom said, calmly.
"Sure. I still live under your roof, therefore, you sustent me, therefore, you pay" I took a breath on the almost unsmokable cigarette.
------------
At the airport, Mom and Jared followed Jess and I stayed outside, taking the last puffs on my cigarette. Once I was done, I headed inside. Took some minutes until I heard my sister scream like the 13 year old she was.
"You never shut up do you?" I asked as I stepped into the circle formed by little girls.
"Ugh" she rolled her eyes. "Girls, this is Ashton, my brother. Don't let his face win you over. He's a douche" She said, annoyed.
"Hey" I said, looking down at the girls who seemed to be breaking their necks from looking up. Either I'm really fucking tall or these girls don't eat enough soup. Their eyes were glowing and they were nearly drooling.
"Jess, tell your friends to control their hormones. I'm 19. I'm not fucking them."
She yelled at them, frustrated that the speak she gave earlier was in vain.------------
Jessica left us at 12:35, to catch the plane at 13:00. Mom and Jared cried their eyes out, whilst I didn't even say a proper goodbye.
The exchange boy/girl was arriving at 15:40. We were supposed to have a cardboard saying "exchange family member" up when the plane landed, so the teen would recognize us. This cardboard wasn't even done yet, but we had 3 hours to make it. These were going to be the most boring 3 hours of my fucking life.
"Ashton, honey, help us with the cardboard. We want to make it pretty for the boy/girl. We want them to know we're good people" I laughed out loud, which made Mom upset.
"I was thinking of some glitter, I brought yellow, red and blue, what do you think would be the best?" I tried not to laugh but it didn't really work. I started snorting and squeaking. It was hilarious.
"I'll be outside smoking. See you at 15:40." I cleaned my tears from previously laughing. Mom just nodded, disappointed.
I arrived outside, the air completely filled with smoke not only from ciggarettes but from cars too. Breathing the clean oxygen inside seemed to be damaging my lungs more than breathing the smoke outside . At this point, clear oxygen felt toxic.
I slid my hand in the right pocket of my sweatpants and without taking it out, I removed a cigarette out of the Malboro box. I rested the delicious, cylindrical looking object between my teeth and ignited it with my right hand fingers while the left ones formed a shell, stopping the wind from extinguishing the flame.
