CH 61 -JASON (BONUS CHAPTER)

Everything happened all at once. Percy rushed to Annabeth, Leo pulled a bolt-cutter out of his tool belt, and the gods, demigods, and giants thundered into the room.

Jason did the only thing that made sense.

He ran to Piper. She was trying to disentangle her hands from the chains, which was a hopeless case. He looked at Percy, who was hacking at Annabeth's chains with Riptide. Jason pulled out his own sword, and started trying to cut through Piper's chains, but the sword just wasn't powerful enough. Piper's constant moving wasn't helping either.

"Jason!" Hazel was sprinting towards him, holding a bolt-cutter in her hand. In the corner of his eye, he saw Leo working on Frank's chains with another bolt-cutter. "Get out of the way!" Hazel unceremoniously shoved him to the side, and began sawing at the chains binding Piper to the ceiling of the cavern. In a matter of minutes, Piper stumbled onto the hard rock of the outside of the pit, ad fell flat on her face. Jason dropped down, and helped her up. They stared at each other for a moment before he pulled Piper to his chest.

They stood locked in embrace for a few moments, Jason's chin resting on the top of Piper's head. Then, as if realizing that they were in a middle of a battle - again, they broke apart.

Annabeth and Percy were fighting a hellhound, back to back, and Frank was shouting orders in Latin to the Romans. Hazel had found Nico, and the two of them, standing on a mound of rocks at the far end of the cavern together looked more frightening than anything else in the cavern, as an army of skeletons, magically engorged so they were over twenty feet tall, attacked all the enemies in sight. Leo was nowhere to be found.

Diana - or was it Artemis? - skidded into sight. "Hello, Jason Grace. Your sister is doing fine, before you ask. Now, to business. There are four giants left. Damasen, the enemy of Ares. Periboia, the enemy of your mother, Piper. Hippolytus, the enemy of my dear brother Hermes. And Mimas, the enemy of Leo's father. All the other giants have been killed. So if we kill the remaining four, Gaea will not awaken. And then, we can attack and make sure she stays asleep. Does that sound like a plan?"

All this was said in one breath, but it was perfectly clear in Jason's brain. "I'm in," he said, trying to sound brave.

"Better go sort out this anti-beauty giant," Piper joked. "What better way to spend an afternoon?"

Diana - or Artemis - smiled. "Wonderful. Well, if you'll excuse me, Damasen is being rather troublesome. I'll go and help out your friend Frank Zhang." And in a flash of silver, she was gone.

Jason turned to Piper. He didn't know what to say, but luckily she did.

"See you after this mess is over," were her romantic words. And then she was also gone.

Jason spotted Leo trying to stab a huge giant with a hammer in his hand. Jason guessed that this was the enemy of Leo's father.

"I will kill you," the giant promised. "I am Mimas! I am born from the blood of Uranus!"

"You sure smell like it!" Leo taunted, narrowly missing a swipe from the six foot long hammer.

He looks like he needs help, Jason decided. And he ran over to his friend.

"Where's your dad?" Jason yelled, as he stabbed Mimas' giant toe.

"Behind the dude," Leo shouted back. Jason noticed that Leo wasn't bothering to use fire on Mimas, probably because the giant was immune to it.

"How are you gonna kill him?" Jason called out.

"No idea!" Leo shouted back, almost with glee.
