Jordan ended up leading me to a small empty children's playground in the middle of town.
"We haven't talked lately have we," Jordan sighed sitting a swing on top of a small slope. Something seemed to be on his mind. Sliding onto the swing next to him I let out a sigh too.
"I guess we haven't."
Usually by the time he got back to the Greene's house it was quite late so I was asleep. I wasn't blaming him though. One question was running through my head though and I couldn't stop myself from asking it.
"Jordan?"
He cocked his head toward me.
"Yes, Julie?"
"Why did Mr Greene act like that the first night when you said our names?"
He dropped his gaze to the floor and kicked off the ground to push his swing slightly,
"Well my dad...was kind of like a leader to us 'normal' people. When the disease first wiped out half of Aliyas my Dad kind of became a leader to Aliyas and your father is, I'm so sorry Julie, I mean was the second in command. He always put you first though before his job."
I wasn't quite sure what to say. I really thought my dad was just a mechanic. I always presumed he didn't care about me but I guess I really never knew anything. I was always too quick to jump to conclusions.
"Oh," I mumbled not quite trusting myself to say anything else.
"Cheer up Julie! We're going to have fun for the next hour, okay?" Jordan pulled me off my swing, "so smile!"
I wish I had dressed better though. I had borrowed some clothes from Ali when we first arrived so I all I had was denim baggy jeans, a plain white shirt and with black combat boots. Guilt hit me then. Here I was worrying about my outfit when innocent people are dying from lunic attacks.
Fun sounded nice. The only times I had real fun was with Jordan while we were training because I didn't really have friends but now I do. All of this was thanks to Jordan really.
I was alive, had a temporary home and friends all thanks to him. A tear rolled down my cheek before I noticed. Jordan elbowed me in the side," C'mon now Julie don't be getting all mushy on me now."
I giggled and pushed him jokingly. "Hey, no glare?"He chuckled back and started poking my side.
"Hey that tickles, stop that!" I exclaimed trying to push his hands away.
"Nope."
I took a step back trying to get away from him but I tripped on the slope dragging him down with me.
We tumbled down the slope landing with a thump.
Oh shit.
I ended up lying on top of Jordan too close to his face.
"Are you ok Julie?"
"Y-yeah I think so."
I blushed at how close our faces were. I didn't notice I was staring at him until he blinked hard.
His eyes were an amazing shade of green though, I couldn't help but lose myself in them while he stared right back into my own hazel eyes.
Before I realized what I was doing I start leaning closer towards his face, pausing mere inches from his face.
I tangled my hands in his messy brown hair as we continued our stare down for a couple seconds. I had to draw the line at some point though. This was wrong, I don't know what came over me. I pushed Jordan away slightly and scrambled to my feet.
"Julia I-"
"No, Jordan I'm I-I don't know what came over me, don't come near me." I started running in the opposite direction to which we had came from.
"Julie!"
I didn't dare look back. "We're just friends," I kept repeating to myself over and over.
