I stretch my arms out in front of me hearing a few cracks here and there. The morning sun breaks through my white curtains that drape along the floor. I reach for my clock and switch off the alarm. A familiar ache settles in my legs, must've been from running home last night. Last night! I bound out of bed, panic flooding my mind. Memories from last night's encounter with Hayden hit me like a freight train. I groan, slumping into my en-suite and let the hot water from the shower run down my back easing the ache in my legs. My brain feels fuzzy, with questions and fears of what today has to come. Running into Hayden Miller last night can only bring one thing, especially when he saw me in my weakest state- Clarissa's going to have a partner in crime.
Five minutes of peace is cut short when the hot water suddenly turns to ice and I jump back in surprise. "No, no, no!" I shriek, playing with the taps and hoping for some warm water to come splashing out. Nothing but icy water. I scamper out of the shower and throw a towel around me, quieting the teeth chatter. As I get dressed my mind wanders off thinking about Hayden. I can't help but think he's not entirely the bad boy everyone claims him to be. The look I saw in those eyes that seemed so pure tells me there's a deeper Hayden Miller no one has seen before, or maybe those two years in military school have changed him.
I grab an Up and Go from the pantry on my way out the door and pick up my school bag from the hat stand by the door. When I turn from locking the door I almost trip down the porch steps as I'm struck with fear. "No," I gasp, covering my mouth with my hand. Hayden Miller. This can't be happening. I feel numb.
"Morning babe," Hayden calls from across the street, as he and two friends climb into a sleek, black aston martin. They're all struck with laughter as I stand here rooted to ground, paralysed with fear. None of this can be good. I should've realised what this meant when Aria told me about him. I mentally face palm myself, how can I be so daft? The neighbourhood bad boy is my new neighbour.

I push and shove my wa- ok I'm pushed and shoved as I make my way through the morning crowds of Santa Cruz High, towards Aria and Ally. When I find them by Ally's locker door I stop for a moment. They seem so happy, how can I ruin that with my dramatics? As Aria catches my gaze I force a smile upon my lips and continue towards them.
"Hey what's up?" Ally asks turning towards me, her apricot blonde hair swishing over her shoulder. I've always been jealous of her long, luscious locks. I can never seem to have my hair right at all, it just falls out of the up-do in all places.
"Nothing, anything interesting happen over night?" I ask trying to sound casual as if the worst thing that could possibly happen in my entire life hadn't just happened to me- ok now I'm sounding like Ally. I'm surprised when Ally instead of answering gives me a huge hug. She breaks away and just as I'm about to ask what it's about I notice a familiar comforting look in their eyes and realise it was for yesterday.
"Thanks guys," I say, genuinely smiling this time.
"It's ok," they say in unison just as the bell rings. I wave goodbye and hurry off to my locker to grab my books for science and social studies.
When I get my books and make my way to class two things are running through my head:
1. Just one class then you can see Ally and Aria in social studies.
2. Please, oh please, oh please let Hayden Miller not be in my science class.
I turn the corner of the hallway and find all eyes on me as my eyes peer through the window of the classroom door. Crap I did not intend on being late.
"Miss Woods, care to join us?" Mr Lensky asks as he opens the door and gestures inside. My eyes quickly scan the room and I notice there is only one seat left. I gulp and head towards the right end column of science tables and sit down on the edge of the second row table and quietly place my books on the blue linoleum table top. Mr Lensky's voice doesn't start up again until I'm seated and staring forward at the shiny new white board. I have no intent on looking to my left because I know it will spark thoughts and feelings I don't feel like handling right now. Instead someone has already done that for me.
"So we meet again," a sickly sweet, mocking voice echoes in my ear. I shuffle over in my seat and move my books an inch. The tone is unfamiliar, unlike last night...
A strand of hair is tucked behind my ear and I jerk upright with surprise. "Please, leave me alone," I hiss through clenched teeth. I shuffle over again, until I find myself on the very edge of the desk.
"Why, scared you won't be able to keep your hands off me?" he whispers in my ear and I jump back in suprise, falling to the floor as my chair is knocked sideways. I glare at him, as he laughs hysterically and almosts falls off his chair.
"Miss Woods and Mr Miller, outside now!" Mr Lenksy snaps and points to the door. Great, second day back and am already in trouble. It wasn't like I was a trouble maker, others *cough Clarissa* just liked to cause trouble for me. We wait outside the door in silence whilst Mr Lensky gives the class work to go on with.
"Where are you going?" I ask when I see Hayden walking off down the hallway.
"It's called jigging babe," he smirks, giving me a wink as he looks over his shoulder. I gape at him, wondering how he can leave just like that so easily without getting caught. When he is out of sight Mr Lenksy comes through the door.
"Oh I knew this would happen. Miss Woods please just return to your seat," Mr Lenksy sighs. I wonder back in and take my seat at the empty desk, ignoring the snickers coming from Clarissa's table at the front of the classroom. How does Hayden get away with that? I would've thought those two years in military school had taught him something, maybe learning how to stay in school was not on the list.
