I left my brother with Nick and Larry and I made our way to DC. The plane ride was short and we soon arrived at the Smithsonian. I walked over to a young male guard, come on time to be the pretty British girl. "Hello? I was wondering if you could help me?" he turned around.
"Woah. Sure, anything sweetheart."
"Could you tell me where they are keeping Ahkmenrah's sarcophagus and tablet?"
"They're in the archives."
"May we see them?"
"I'm sorry miss that's a restricted area."
"I'm not one for rules I always find a way around them." I pulled out an all access pass sent to me by my university, and showed it to him. "Niamh Short. All access by order Cambridge university history department. Now. I believe you were showing me into the Archives." He looked at me in shock.
"Yes. Right this way." He lead us down into the archives then slipped a piece of paper into my hand. "Call me, I like mischievous girls." I rolled my eyes as he walked away.
"Yeh and I like 3000 year old dead Egyptian guys." I muttered knowing he was out of earshot, as I threw the piece of paper away. I opened the case as a woman announced that the museum would be closing in 10 minutes. Okay I opened Ahk's sarcophagus and waited. "Larry. Go find Kahmunrah. Distract him." As Larry ran off the tablet began to glow and Ahk woke up. I quickly helped him out of his bandages.
"Where am I?" He asked looking around.
"You're under the Smithsonian museum in DC."
"May I still have you dressed in my people's clothing?"
"Larry is buying us some time so yes." I turned away from him and pulled my top off over my head. I felt his soft hands touch my back. I remembered the tattoo over my back. I had an enlarged cartouche down the top half of my back with my full name "Niamh Isis Short" (it never exactly rolled off the tongue) inside it written in hieroglyphics with an Ankh on my left shoulder blade and the eye of Horace on my right shoulder blade.
"Wow. You bare the name of a goddess."
"That I do. the Ankh being a symbol of life and the eye of Horace one of protection." I said as I pulled on the first female Egyptian clothing I could find. I turned to face him and he smiled.
"You are truly deserving of the name of the goddess."
"Thank you Ahk. That means a lot coming from you." Just as I hugged him I was pulled away by the back of my dress. A Khopesh placed under my chin.
"Why hello brother." Spoke the guy behind me. "Found a young lady have we?"
"Let her go brother it is I you have a problem with. Not her."
"So, the great Pharaoh has a weakness?"
"Let her go."
"Give me what I want." Ahk pulled out the tablet.
"Don't do it Ahk." I spoke out hoarsely.
"No one allowed you to speak." He said as he placed the Khopesh at my back.
"Don't do it." I knew if he didn't give Kahmunrah the tablet I would die, for sure. I mouthed at him. "Look away."
"I gave you your chance brother." Ahk closed his eyes as the Khopesh was plunged into my back. The pain was unbelievable. He pulled the Khopesh out of my back and allowed me to fall to the floor. I sucked in air trying to breathe but nothing was working. Ahk took me in his arms.
"Look at me. Niamh. Look at me. Ssshhhh. I'm here." I tried to speak but nothing came out. I placed my finger on the tablet and then on my heart. A tear fell down my face as the world faded to black....
Ahkmenrah's P.O.V.
She's gone. I leapt up, fuelled by nothing but anger and grief. I pulled the Khopesh out of his hand and drove it through his chest. He cried out but I cared not. He was no brother of mine. I pulled her into my arms as a dazed Larry walked or rather stumbled into the room. "I was jumped and knocked out and- what happened?!"
"She was killed by my brother. She gave herself up." Tears fell from my eyes. "before she died she touched my tablet and then her heart. I do not know what she meant." there was a long silence until Larry spoke again.
"She knew. That thing brings things back to life. She knew she wouldn't 'completely' die. if my hunch is correct she'll wake up tomorrow night." He looked around. "I'm gonna get us a lift back to New York. I'll be night there by now too." He walked off and came back with a woman. "Amelia Earheart. Best pilot I could find." We all climbed into her plane and I held Niamh's now cold, lifeless body in my arms.
When back in New York, I carried her into my chambers. I was met by Anubis. "I want her embalmed, I want her to have the same special treatment as I, her heart and brain must stay in her body." He nodded and pulled out the other organs. He placed them into jars and then began to wrap her body. I know where her soul is now, it is being guided by Anubis where he would then weigh her heart against the feather of Ma'at. If the feather weighed more she will pass into the afterlife with me. It is a frightening process, but I'm sure she'll make it.
As Anubis finished he backed off and nodded to me. I placed her hands across her chest. Okay I'm gonna need a bigger coffin. She's gonna need a place to stay. Now she is dead. Oh Ra!! Her brother. I laid in the coffin with her and faded back into sleep. I hope this works.
