Part 5 > How Dare You

I wake up with a huge smile on my face. I get out of bed and head to the kitchen, while humming some song I heard last night. When I get to the fridge I remember what happened with my parents last night which makes me stop humming and stop smiling. I could tell my dad had already left and my mom wasn't awake yet, so I get a bowl of cereal and head back to my room. I put on jeans and a shirt I find in my drawer that I'm pretty sure I got two years ago but it still fits so I keep it on. I look around for my purse when I realize I left it in Tanners car. Which means my phone is in there too, this day just can't get any better can it. I check the time and head out the door.
I get to school and find Tanner at my locker. Everyone's staring at us which makes me really uncomfortable, I walk up to him and he hands me my purse.
"Uh thanks" I tell him looking at everyone that's still staring.
"Yeah no problem, just your phones been buzzing all morning" He says with a smirk.
I look at him with a serious face and pull out my phone.
*6 missed calls from Jamie*
*3 missed texts from 2 different people*
I open the messages, the first two are from Jamie and the third one is from another unknown number.
The text read *You better stay away from Tanner or everyone will find out your big secret* I put my phone back in my purse and tell Tanner I have to go. He calls after me but I keep walking. I get out in the parking lot and see Justin standing by his car. He sees me looking at him and I try and look away but he walks up to me.
"You trying to ditch?" He asks me looking me up and down.
"Don't talk to me Justin, especially after you probably forced Jamie to get back with you" I say about to walk away
"Wait one second, I am not forcing her to get back with me, shes the one that asked me to start talking again" He tells me with an angry tone in his voice and his hand tightly around my arm.
"Justin let go of me!" I start saying a bit louder, but he only holds on tighter.
I could feel tears forming in my eyes and my voice getting higher in pitch. My arm started feeling numb and right as I thought he was gonna hit me or something, someone else hits Justin and I fall to the ground.

I open up my eyes to a bright light. I can't hear anything and my head hurts a hole lot. Everything's blurry and I see the shape of a body sitting in the chair beside the bed. My sight starts to return to normal and I realize that it's Tanner, and that I'm in a hospital looking room. Tanner seems to be running his hand back and fourth through his hair. He hasn't noticed that I'm awake yet so I try to speak.
"T-Tanner" I peep out very quietly. But loud enough that he looks towards me. He practically shoots up from the chair and races over to me.
"I'm right here Kai" He places his hand on mine and doesn't let go. We look at each other for a couple minutes until the doctor walks in.
"Ah Kai you're awake! I'm doctor Cole" He says in a serious tone. And I just lay there looking at him.
"So is anything wrong?" Tanner asks him sounding worried. As he looks at the papers he doesn't say anything for a minute and then, "Well Kai, You have a concussion"

I take a deep sigh and look at Tanner who keeps looking back and fourth from the doctor to me. Then out of no where my mom comes running in screaming my name. "Kai! Kai! oh my gosh! Are you alright? They called me saying you were in an accident!" She says still screaming and running to my side. "Mom, I'm fine" I say annoyed. Knowing her she was probably faking the whole thing and was probably drunk when she got the call. "Ma'am your daughters fine, she has a minor concussion and some memory loss that should return" Doctor Cole says. "She just shouldn't be around high stress levels anytime soon" He adds looking at me and winking. He could probably tell I was already stressed.
"Oh I totally understand" My mom says tightening her grip on my hand. I then remember that Tanners still here and look over to him, I see him leaning on the wall across the room. I keep looking at him and then he looks back at me and smiles, I smile back until my mom puts her face right in front of mine. "Kai look at me!" She yells into my face. She sees what I was looking at and turns to Tanner. "Who are you exactly? And what are you doing here!?" My mom said angrily.
"Oh uh mom, This is Tanner and Tanner this is my mom" I introduce them smiling at him. "Okay but who is he?"
"Uh Ma'am I'm the one who brought her to the hospital" He says as he looks at me. "Well then, uh thank you but you can go now she's fine" She tells him.
"Mom? No I want him to stay" I say to her.
"Kai I'm you're mother I make the decision, and my decision is that he goes" She says starring right at me. Ugh I can't believe her sometimes.
"Can I go for a walk?" I ask the doctor Who is actually still standing here.
"Yes just be careful" He says and walks out of the room. I go to get up when my mom stops me "What are you doing?" She asks holding onto my arms "Ah mom my arm!" I tell her in pain "Oh sorry hun" she says as if she's a totally different person
I get out of the bed, very painfully and walk out of the room. I can hear my mom bickering with her self which makes me even more stressed. I go to lean on the wall when I end up leaning into someone. I look up to see those perfect teeth and that amazing smile that only belong to the one and only...Tanner. "You okay?" He asks laughing. "Totally, you know just a little dizziness nothing to worry about" I say sarcastically as he and I both laugh. "Hey sorry about my mom, she can get a little crazy" I try telling him without freaking out. "It's fine Kai, I get it" He says before laughing a bit. We both keep looking at each other until we reach a bench at the end a the hall. "Oh and uh thanks for bringing me here" I tell him
"Yeah no problem, I guess I should get my hand checked out after this" He says while rubbing his hand and laughing. I grab his hand and start telling him the story of how I broke my hand in the fourth grade and I keep going on and on until, he grabs my chin and looks right into my eyes as he does this we both lean into what must have felt like an hour long kiss.
"Kai Ivy Loyd!" My mom yells standing in front of us which brakes him and I apart making us both feel awkward. "I should be getting home, I'll see you tomorrow Kai" Tanner says as he gets up and smiles. "Yes mister and you are not to be around my daughter anymore, at least not until she's better" She says looking right at Tanner. I can tell he's nervous so I tell him that I'll talk to him tomorrow and he walks down the hall into the elevator, and out of sight.
