I pulled on his hand again, and he nearly fell over.

"CALUM!! WE HAVE TO GO!" I screamed. My breathing was still heavy, and I felt light headed.

I needed to get away from the dark. I couldn't just wait for it to come and swallow me whole.

"Calum please!"I started crying, the hot tears pouring down my face. He just grabbed onto my shoulders and turned me to face him.

"Kat. Listen. We can't outrun that." He pointed to the darkness that was slowly approaching us.

"So we're gonna wait here, okay?" He sat down on the sidewalk and pulled me down with him, facing me.

The dark wall was coming faster now, and it was almost to us. I focused on my breathing and looked Calum straight in the eye. He was the only thing keeping me from passing out right here.

"It's gonna be okay Kat, I promise." A small grin formed on his lips.

The light beside us turned off, followed by the house lights on the other side of the street.

And even as the darkness consumed his entire body, his figure slowly disappearing into the black, he smiled at me.

We sat together in silence. Well, almost silence. Screams filled the air around us, along with my heavy breathing.

Now I knew this wasn't just a power outage. By now people would definitely have generators on.

But it was just all dark. And wouldn't the street lights have turned on? This definitely wasn't normal.

And it was terrifying.

I was starting to calm down. Calum's here, you're going to be fine. He won't let anything bad happen.

"Calum?" My voice sounded strange from the crying I had been doing.

"Ya Kat?" His voice automatically calmed my cluttered brain.

"Can you see anything?" At the moment everything was pitch black to me. The cloudy night sky covered what might be some light from the moon.

"No. We need to find some light. We need to get back to your house." I sat on the cold pavement for a moment, just thinking.

I suddenly felt a buzz in my pocket, followed by a feint light.

"Calum! My phone!" I whisper-yelled. I slid the phone out of my pocket, looking at the bright screen that contrasted from the dark sky around us.

It was just a notification from instagram.

"Kat, isn't there a light on your phone?" Calum stood up, pulling me with him. I pulled up the control center from the bottom of the screen and turned it on.

The light flashed on Calum's face, causing him to squint. He brought his hand up to shield his face.

"This is perfect!" Calum said, pulling his hand from his face.

"Now get the light out of my face, I'm gonna go blind." There was a small laugh in his voice, and it sounded strange considering our situation.

"Now to find the way home"
