I was awoken by my alarm clock, which was blasting throughout my bedroom. Groaning loudly, I got up from the floor and pressed the 'snooze' button, nearly knocking the alarm clock off the night table. I only got an hour of sleep, but it's better than not sleeping at all. Glancing at the time, I gasped when I realized that I was going to be late and bolted to the closet to get dressed. "Fuck, fuck, fuck..!" I blurted out as I picked out the first thing I saw. It was a casual dress, where the top was white with sleeves that were elbow length and the bottom was navy blue, along with a thin black belt around the waist area.
'Whatever, this'll do.' I thought as I hastily pulled it on, and slipped my feet into a pair of flats. I also put the bracelet on, since I had recently bought it and I wanted to try it on. Running across the hall to the bathroom, I brushed my teeth within a minute, and I took a glance at my hair once I finished. "Looks presentable." I said with a shrug as I rushed back to my bedroom, slinging my messenger bag over my shoulder and grabbing my painted canvas from the easel and heard my phone ring. I pulled it out from the bag and noticed that it was from one of my best friends, Maxine.
"Where the hell are you?" "I may or may not have overslept, but I'll be there soon. Gotta go," I replied calmly as I left my apartment, and hung up. I put the phone back in my bag and sprinted to art school.
I didn't really have a car, because I'm starting to save up money for that, and I've never really learned how to drive. Believe it or not, I am a twenty-two year old who is afraid of driving. I got an apartment near this school since I didn't have transportation, and I've been living there for years.
I did not stop running, my legs felt like they were on fire. Usually I would walk there and make it in time, but I was pretty much late at this point. Going through the doors, I made it to the classroom and slowly walked in.
"There you are! The professor hasn't noticed you weren't here yet, so you're good." She stated as she motioned for me to turn in my canvas. I panted as I slowly walked towards the teacher's desk, and set the canvas down in front of him. He took a glance down at my canvas and gave me a slight nod as I began walking towards my seat.
"So, what are we doing today?" I asked, and Max turned her head to me. "Self portraits again. He wants to see if we can improve at it." Max replied plainly, handing me a large and empty page.
Before I could even begin on the drawing, I stared down at the bracelet in silence. I wasn't sure when 'soon' actually is. It could happen today, tomorrow, right now... Hell, maybe even in a couple of years.
Usually my relationships are complete disasters, I don't know how this will turn out. They eventually turn into creeps or complete dicks. My last boyfriend, on the other hand...
No words can describe how much I despise him. It hurts every time I talk about it to someone or bother to think about it.
"Something on your mind, Viv?" Max questioned and I instantly snapped out of my trance, turning my head to look at her. "Yeah, totally. Why do you ask?" "You usually don't zone out like that. And I can tell whether something's bothering you or not." She was certainly right about that. I sighed softly, giving her a gentle smile. "I'll tell you about it later. I got to get started on this self portrait."
Time flew by quick, as usual. Max and I walked to my apartment, she sleeps over at my place most often since I'm always alone at home. Another best friend of mine, Karliah, does the same. They're basically the only ones I spend time with.
"So about earlier.." She mentioned slowly and I stared down at the pavement silently for a moment, then looked back up. "Do you believe in finding someone with an accessory or a piece of clothing...?" I asked, and Max raised a brow at me. "Not really. Like, anyone could have the same accessory as you and that 'soulmate'." She stated and made quotation marks with her fingers for the word 'soulmate.' "Personally, I don't believe in that crap for even one second..." She mumbled, shoving her hands in her pockets.
I took a glance down at my bracelet, and Max looked in the same direction. "Is that what it's about? Who gave you that?" She asked, looking up at me, then back at the bracelet. "Some short old dude at the flea market gave it to me, telling me how I was in his visions with a guy, which I don't know jack shit about. He told me that once I find my soulmate with that bracelet and fall in love, I come to him with that mystery man." I briefly explained, causing Max to stay quiet for a few minutes.
"Please tell me that you don't actually believe that."
"Well, you did have a good point back there, but a part of me still thinks that I should believe." I replied softly, and she let out a chuckle. "Yeah, yeah. You do you. By the way, aren't you working on a cosplay for the convention coming soon?" She asked and I slowly nodded. "Yup. I'm cosplaying as Shego from Kim Possible. Mind helping me out a bit tonight?""You bet your ass I do," She laughed as she playfully nudged me with her elbow, walking faster to my front door.
