Jimin takes out the third batch of red velvet cupcakes from the oven when Namjoon stumbles in the kitchen. He closes the door of the oven carefully while balancing the hot tray in his hand. His mitten is pale pink with printed pineapples, a gift from Seokjin.

"Hi, hyung," Jimin says sheepishly. Namjoon rubs at his face while yawning.
He blinks and asks, "What are you doing?"

"Umm... baking?" Jimin responds and if Namjoon were wake enough to notice colorful cupcakes covering every flat surface of their kitchen, he wouldn't have to ask, but ...

"In 3 in the morning?" Namjoon asks.

"I'm under a lot of stress," Jimin offers an excuse.

"Finals start in two months," Namjoon deadpans. "What are you stressed about?"

"Some other things, like feelings and how to deal with them?" he smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes.

Jimin is a grown-up young man and he knows how to deal with his feelings unless they're in a shape and form of a boy living in the apartment two doors away from his and who he sees every morning because their classes just conveniently start at the same time. The said boy also happens to tease him about this and that but there's never venom in his words and Jimin finds a bit of happiness in the fact that the person who literally hates everybody doesn't despise him as well.

It's a small victory, but a victory nontheless.

Jimin is an adult and just like every responsible adult would do, he waits for Yoongi to leave his apartment first and take the elevator to the lobby before locking his door and taking the stairs from the tenth floor.

-

"He's avoiding me," Yoongi shoves a fry in his mouth. Extra ketchup and forgotten manners.

Hoseok looks up from his burger and says, "Isn't that what people usually do? I'm like your only friend."

"No, people don't do that."

"Oh really?" Hoseok eyes him and Yoongi fights the urge to shove the rest of his fries into Hoseok's mouth.

"You're not helping. And even if people do that, Jimin doesn't."

"Until now?" Hoseok snickers and this is the reason why Yoongi hates getting involved with people.

"Yes," he sighs and Hoseok awkwardly pats his shoulder.

"Maybe he realized that you're creepin' on him and his survival instincts kicked it."

"Fuck off, Hoseok," Yoongi swats his hand away and focuses on eating.

It goes something a little like this:

Jimin becomes Namjoon's roommate during his second year of university when it becomes too tiresome living in the dorm (courtesy of his former roommates who had nothing on mind except parties and alcohol) and Namjoon's best friend graduates and moves out.

He comes with a few boxes filled with books and various memorabilia and maybe he should have waited for Namjoon to help him instead of trying to move all my himself, but a neighbor introducing himself as Yoongi offers to help him.

And since Jimin is a nice kid, he invites Yoongi to coffee as a sign of gratitude.

It turns out that Yoongi lives just two doors down the hallway and Jimin feels good about meeting new people, quite possibly new friends.

It shouldn't go like this, but it does:

Jimin has a tendency of taking things too close to his heart and people just happen to take advantage of him more often than once. Sometimes it crushes his self-confidence, ruins his trust, breaks his heart and usually he needs a few days to get back to his old self.

Yoongi meets him in front of the elevator on one of those days and he can't help but taking pity of the young boy, so that day Jimin ends up in Yoongi's apartment instead of his, with a cup of warm tea instead of hot chocolate, but that's okay because Yoongi doesn't ask questions, just shares the silence.

-

"I can't do this, hyung," Jimin whines as Namjoon guides him out of the apartment. There's a box of cupcakes in his hands.

"Yes, yes you can, Jimin," Namjoon says before pushing him towards Yoongi's door. "I can't allow you to turn our apartment in a pastry shop."

"But, hyung -" Jimin opens his mouth to complain.

"Nothing. You two should stop beating around the bush. Even a blind person can see that the affection is mutual, now go."

Jimin stumbles down the hallway, but luckily he doesn't lose his balance and the cupcakes are still in one piece. Taking a deep breath, he raises his hand to knock, but the door of Yoongi's apartment swings open and a grumpy Yoongi appears on the doorstep.

"Jimin?"

"Hi, hyung," he says, biting his lips. "Want a cupcake?"

"Want to poison me?" Yoongi asks in return.

"He wants to confess," comes a voice from the hallway and Yoongi smirks. Jimin inwardly curses his roommate.

"Is that so?" Yoongi smirks.

Jimin looks down, at the box in his hands. He can feel his cheeks burning.

"Maybe," he says and Yoongi moves from the doorframe to let him inside.

-

It's destined to be like this:

Jimin stops baking cupcakes as a way to relieve stress because Yoongi's lips taste better than any cake and Yoongi's touch melts all his worries away.

Namjoon complains about them being too gross and "guys, get a room". They take that quite literally and Jimin's moving out the next morning. This time he doesn't have to carry his stuff to the tenth floor. His new apartment is just two doors down the hallway, but the boy who helps him with carrying boxes is the one who helped him the first time.
