Morning arrived quietly, softer than the day before, as if the world knew I needed gentleness.
I woke to the steady rise and fall of Yoongi’s chest beneath my cheek. His arm was still around me, heavy and warm, his fingers tangled in the fabric of the blanket as if he hadn’t been willing to let go all night.
For a few precious seconds, everything was still.
Then the house began to stir.
Footsteps in the hallway. The rustle of luggage. Namjoon’s deep voice directing… and Jimin’s softer one whining about having to get up this early.
Right.
Today was the MAMA Awards in Japan.
A big one.
A long trip.
And a few days without them.
A small ache settled in my chest.
Yoongi’s hand slid up my back lazily. “You’re thinking again.”
I huffed out a soft laugh. “Apparently I don’t do anything else.”
His lips brushed my hairline. “We’ll be back before you can even really miss us.”
I wanted to argue that sometimes missing them wasn’t about time, it was about the space they filled, but instead I pushed myself up and kissed his cheek.
“Come on. Let’s get you ready before Jin starts yelling.”
Yoongi groaned dramatically but let me pull him up.
Downstairs.
The kitchen was alive the moment we stepped in.
Jin was packing breakfast boxes with military precision. Taehyung kept stealing bites of fruit. Hobi was half dancing, half packing. Jimin kept checking his hair in every reflective surface.
Namjoon held a clipboard. Of course.
Jungkook sat at the table with Maddie on his lap, still in her princess pajamas, braiding his hair with tiny purple elastic bands.
He looked both betrayed and too in love to stop her.
“Morning,” I said softly.
Jungkook perked up immediately. "Ali! Maddie said she wants to make me ‘pretty for the stage."
Maddie nodded proudly, tugging another elastic into place. “You need sparkle.”
Tae crouched next to them, dead serious. “She’s right, you know.”
Yoongi snorted. “She’s six, she’s not your stylist.”
“She could be,” Taehyung argued, and Maddie giggled so hard she slapped his shoulder.
I leaned down and kissed Maddie’s head. “Come here, little star. They need to finish getting ready.”
She reluctantly slid off Jungkook’s lap and into my arms just as Jin started shooing the boys toward the hallway.
The vans waited outside, engines humming softly in the cold morning air.
Maddie stood beside me on the front step, wrapped in her pink coat, holding my hand.
Jin hugged me first.
“Rest today,” he said quietly, voice soft but firm. “I mean it.”
“I will.”
Namjoon stepped forward next, adjusting his glasses. “Call me if you need anything. Anything, Ali.”
“Joon… you’re going to a major award show, not disappearing into the wilderness.”
He smiled, dimples deep. “Still.”
Hobi twirled Maddie once, making her giggle. “Take care of mommy for us, hmm?” he told her.
