Dan's POV
-
It was Monday morning and I was on my way to school. I would've given Phil a ride but since we were pretending not to know each other, I couldn't. Luckily, his mum doesn't have a job so she is driving Phil to school.I walk into the cafeteria, like normal. Sitting down and talking to Pj and Chris.
"Hey, guys," I greet.
"Hey," they say in unison.
"Well that was creepy," Chris says.
"Have you guys seen the new guy yet?" Pj asks.
"Nope. A new family moved in three doors down from my house on Saturday, though. I think it was him and his family," I lie.
"Oh, cool," they say, again in unison.
"What the heck is happening?" Pj exclaims.
"I don't know, but if you guys don't stop saying things at the same time I'm going to go insane," I tell them.
"Well, the bell is going to ring in 3-2-1..." Chris says, the bell ringing right after he said one.
"Bye, guys!" I say, excited to get to English and see what happens with Phil.I walk into the class, ignoring all the popular girls and sit down in my desk.
"Good morning class!" My teacher greets us cheerily. "Today we have a new student! Come up to the front," she says, motioning at Phil to leave where he's standing at the side.
Phil makes eye contact with me and I wink at him, giving him a small smile.
I look at the popular girls. They're gushing over Phil and I can hear things like: "he's so hot," or "oh my god I hope he's not taken."
Ha. Ha. Back the fuck away bitches. Phil Lester is mine.
"Now, would you like to introduce yourself?" The teacher asks Phil.
"Um, sure. My name's Phil Lester," he says a bit awkwardly to the class.
"Anything interesting you'd like to share about yourself, Phil?" The teacher presses.
"No, not really," he replies.
"Okay, you can go sit beside Dan Howell. Dan give a wave so he knows who you are," the teacher says.
I wave, even though Phil already knows exactly who I am. If I didn't wave my teacher would probably think I'm rude.
"How's it going?" I ask, leaning over so Phil can hear me.
"Good. But damn Dan, how did you deal with all these girls? They've already started gushing over me and I've only been a student at this school for ten minutes. The girls at my school were definitely not this bad," he says.
"Yeah, you'll get used to it. If they really get on your nerves, just say you're gay. Just don't say you have a boyfriend because they'll ask who," I inform him.
"Okay, thanks for the helpful tips. I really wish I could kiss you right now," he tells me.
"Wait until after school, babe," I whisper.
"Daniel! Since you seem to already be such great friends with Phil and I know you've already finished the essay we're working on in class, would you like to give Phil a tour of the school?" The teacher asks, interrupting our conversation.
"Sure," I say.
"Okay, just be back before class ends so you can gather your things. Phil, I'll give you work and catch you up in class tomorrow," the teacher says, smiling at us.
Phil and I walk out of the classroom and into the empty hallways.
"Okay, so since you're probably going to be with me most of the time, I don't really need to give you a tour. This school is also super small so your chances of getting lost are slim," I tell Phil.
"Okay," he replies.
"Have you gone and opened your locker yet? Your bag looks pretty full," I ask.
"No, I haven't yet. I didn't have time," Phil tells me.
"Perfect, let's go find your locker then. We can empty out your stuff," I say.
Phil hands me the sheet of paper with his locker number and combo on it. I smirk down at where his locker is placed.
I walk down a few more hallways and stop at Phil's locker.
"So, Phil. Your locker is in the science hall. I actually think one of my friends, Pj, is in his science class right now. You'll meet him at lunch," I tell him. "Also, the washroom here is never used, basically if you ever feel the urge to, text me and we can go make out. Because when I say no one ever uses this washroom, I mean it."
"Well, don't get too horny, Dan. I don't want to make out with you on my first day. Even if you've been my boyfriend for two years," he says.
"Oh, shush. Let's continue with the rest of the tour," I tell him, leading him down another hallway where the library is. "This is probably the best place in the school, this my friend, is the hallway that contains the library."
"Oh my god it's so big," he snorts at what he said, realizing the innuendo immediately.
"Yeah, it is. It has so many great books inside. And you and I being the massive nerds we are, will always find delight in here. By the way, my friends you'll be meeting at lunch, Pj and Chris, are also giant nerds," I tell him.
"Even better," he says.
"Okay, I think I've basically shown you everything. Let's get back to class, the bell is going to ring," I say.
When we got back into the class, the bell rung. We picked up our bags and left the room.
"What's our next class, Dan?" Phil asks.
"P.E. Ugh," I tell him.
"What are you guys doing in p.e right now?"
"We're doing the dance unit. I think we're learning how to tap dance today," I tell him.
"I've watched some professional tap dancers before. It looks so hard, I seriously have no idea how they move their feet so fast," Phil says.
"Do we have to wear actual tap shoes?" He asks.
"Yes. They're really crappy, but who cares? No one knows what they're doing anyways. Not even the teachers. We watch a video to learn," I tell him.
Phil and I walk into the change room, quickly slipping on our gym clothes and heading into the gym.
"Hi, class!" Our perky gym teacher greets.
"We have a new student today! Where are you Phil Lester?"
"Right here, miss," Phil says, waving his hand so she can find him in the crowd of boys easily.
"Okay, everyone. This is Phil Lester. He's new to our school so please be nice," the teacher tells the class. "Let's get started with the tap dance! Go to the bins over there and find your tap shoe size, then put them on," she directs.
Once the whole class has put the tap shoes on, the teacher pops the disk and a man comes onto the screen.
"Today I will be teaching you the basics of tap dancing," the man says. "First you're going to pretend you're playing football. Brush the ball of your foot forward so that only the top plate on your tap shoe is hitting the floor, then repeat that, but brush back. Keep on doing that and sooner or later you can make the step smaller and faster so it sounds like this," the man on the screen demonstrates the faster version of what he told us to do. "This is called a shuffle," he says.
The teacher pauses the tv and tells us to do the step 10 times on each foot. I know that this is supposed to be easy, but I'm seriously not meant to dance.
Once everyone was done, the teacher pressed play on the video and we continued to learn some more steps.Phil and I walked out of the changeroom. P.e was over, thank god.
"Some of those steps that guy did sounded really cool when he did them fast. I could barely do them slowly," Phil says.
"Same here," I agree, walking into the cafeteria and leading Phil over to where I usually sit with Pj and Chris.
"Hey, guys. This is the new kid, Phil. Turns out he's in all my classes," I tell them.
"Hi, Phil!" Pj and Chris say, for once at different times.
"Hi," Phil replies.
"What's your favourite band?" Pj asks as soon as Phil sat down.
"Panic! At The Disco," Phil replies automatically.
"Okay, you passed the test," Pj says.
"What's your favourite song by them?" Chris asks Phil.
"Excuse me did you just ask me that?" Phil replies, jokingly.
"I know it's hard, dude. Pick one you really like, then!"
"Um, I'm really liking Far Too Young To Die right now," Phil tells them.
"Good choice, Phil," I say.
For the rest of lunch we chat about anything and everything. Phil, Chris, and Pj all seem to get along nicely, so that's great.
"Hey, Dan. Want to come to my locker with me? I need to get my maths binder," Phil says.
"Yeah, sure Phil. Let me just say something to Chris and Pj, I'll catch up," I reply.
"So, do you guys like him?" I ask.
"Yeah, he seems pretty cool," Pj says.
"I agree," Chris tells us.
"Okay, cool. Well, I'll see you guys tomorrow then," I tell them, heading to where Phil went.
When I turn the corner I see Katherine, Ella, Mackenzie, and Clara talking to Phil. And touching him.
"Woah, guys. What's happening?" I ask.
"Your friend is hot, Dan. Just like you," Clara says.
"Yeah sorry. Well my friend and I, which by the way, he has a name, have to go now. Bye!" I say, pulling Phil's arm and walking to his locker.
"Oh my god, thank you Dan. They were really getting on my nerves," Phil thanks me.
"No problem," I tell him.
Phil grabs his maths binder from his locker and we walk down a few more hallways until we get to the maths hallway.
"Ready for the worst class ever?" I ask Phil.
"I'm good at math, so, yes!" Phil replies.
"Oh yeah, I forgot. Looks like you can help me with my homework now," I say with a smirk on my face.Later that day, after school, we were in Phil's room, putting things into drawers and placing things on shelves.
"Dan, are you ready for the best part?"
"What's the best part, Phil?"
"We get to put all my books on my book shelf," he says.
"Oh my god, this is going to take forever, but I agree it will be fun," I reply.
"But first, you need to kiss me. I spent a whole day with you today and I couldn't even touch you," Phil says.
"Will do!" I say, and we attach our lips.
When we pull apart, Phil starts singing Panic! At The Disco."Well I never really thought that'd you'd come tonight, while the crown hangs heavy on either side, give me one last kiss while we're far too young to die."
"Is that Far Too Young To Die?" I ask.
"Yeah. When I said it was my favourite song by them at lunch, I was thinking of you," Phil replies sweetly.
"Why does the song make you think of me?" I ask another question.
"I don't know. The song just has something about kissing and I really like kissing you," he tells me.
"I really like kissing you, too," I say.
"Well, let's get some books on these shelves!" Phil exclaims.
"Okay!"About half an hour later we had gotten all the books onto Phil's shelves and I was looking at them.
"Hey, Phil. Can I borrow this book?" I ask, holding up a well read copy of City of Bones by Cassandra Clare - the first book in The Mortal Instruments series.
"Nope," he replies.
"Why not?" I ask.
"Because you should read her other trilogy The Infernal Devices," he explains, handing me a copy of a book called Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. "Her books are really addicting and if you read The Mortal Instruments series first, it'll somewhat spoil you for The Infernal Devices. Tell me when you finish Clockwork Angel so I can give you the next book!" He tells me.
"Okay, thanks! I've got to go home for dinner now. Bye, love you," I say, pecking his cheek and walking out the door.
