Tanya stood, her toes submerged in the sand. She stared far into the distance; taking in the view her feet could not take her to. Maybe Pete was there; somewhere far where she could not hold him again like she was never letting go, some place where the sound of his voice would be lost with the wind howling past for a second, some place which wasn't next to her. It was the fifth day Pete left and Tanya had returned to the beach again. It was where he took her out on their first date. It wasn't anything cliched or fancy but she enjoyed every moment spent as the man who had promised her the world made her giggle to the silliest jokes...
"Tanya," Rose cautiously uttered, "I knew I would find you here." Tanya did not look back. She did not want anyone, not even her best friend, Rose, to see her in such a vulnerable state. But the pain was unbearable and her aching heart longed for the familiarity of Pete's touch, only his.
"Hey," Rose said, "let's go back, okay? You're going to catch a cold." Her swollen eyes let go of the tears as it streamed down her cheeks.
"He's gone," The words barely made it out of her mouth, "he l-left m-me..." Tanya howled as devastation swallowed her whole. Rose ran to her side and all she could do was to lend her a shoulder and reassuring pats to comfort her. Tears well up in Rose's eyes too and sniffed her nose. She too, had lost a friend.
