Whisked Away

Untitled Part 10

"I'm home!" Rose kicked off her burgundy pumps, locking the door behind her. 

"I'm almost done!"TING! She removed the lid of the popcorn maker and transferred the piping hot popcorn into a huge, green plastic bowl and drizzled honey over it. Tanya wiped her hands on the plain, beige apron, leaving behind a trail of stains and stickiness. 

"I got your favourite- red, and it's sweet!"

"You know me best," She grinned. 

"Okay, let's dig in!" Tanya emerged from the kitchen, juggling a bowl of popcorn, a box of chilled, plump strawberries, a container of Nutella and two wine glasses entangled between her fingers. 

"I asked you if you needed help!" Rose scurried and helped her. Laying down everything on the round table, both of them slumped against the sofa. "Horror or comedy?"

"Hmm, comedy," Tanya replied, already drowning her strawberry in the sea of creamy dark brown. 

"Right on it," Rose meddled with the remote control, flicking through the channels. "DAMN, IT'S WHITE CHICKS!"

Both the ladies' eyes widened with anticipation. Pouring wine into each glass, both of them raised their legs and crossed them on the sofa, comfortable. For the next few hours, all that escaped from the apartment was the sound of delectable laughter; no one would have figured that Tanya White, tenant of apartment unit 2024, had a painful void in her heart. No one would have guessed that the paraphernalia of mess in her house was caused by a tragedy so horrific, it pained her every night. Yet, no one, not even Tanya herself, would know about her own strength to get back up and to love again. The movie reeled and the hands on the clock ticked. Two pairs of eyes fought the weight of their eyelids to stay open as their unfinished wine stained the spine-like curvature of the glasses. In the far distance, a lonely man was driving a long stretch of road, nursing his broken heart, unaware that he was getting closer to the band-aid for his misery.
