A very flustered Tanya entered a jubilantly noised cafe. Pushing the swing door, the sound of jingling bells noted her arrival. Scanning the tsunami of unfamiliar faces, she spotted Rose and rushed towards her.
"Sorry, I'm late!" Tanya gasped, her face, apologetic.
Rose looked up from her phone, eyebrows knitted in disapproval. "Gosh, when will you ever start being on time, Tanya?"
"I'll buy you a drink." A cheeky grin formed on Tanya's face.
A burly, friendly-looking waiter holding a notepad and a blunt pencil approached and greeted them warmly. "Hi, gorgeous ladies."
"Hi, Jones!" Both ladies greeted them melodiously. Jones was a college student who worked part-time in Full Spoon Cafe for almost a year and he was a familiar figure for the two.
"The usual," Jones grinned, " salmon sandwich with pomegranate juice for Rose and chocolate glazed bagel with Chai Latte for Tanya, right?"
"Bingo!" Rose winked.
"Right up!" Jones chuckled and headed towards the kitchen behind the counter.
"Oh, what a fine young man," Rose claimed, "if he was a couple of years older, I would have snapped him up. So good looking as well."
"What are you now, a pedophile?" They both giggled in unison.
Sipping on sparkling water, Tanya and Rose' chatters drowned among the other patrons' roars of laughter and the clinking of cutlery. Finally after a long time, Tanya finally found herself immersing into a deep conversation without thinking of Pete repeatedly and feeling like her broken heart could never be mended again.
"Incoming food for the two most beautiful ladies!" Jones exclaimed, balancing plates of deliciousness and two high ball glasses. "Enjoy the food, girls!" He did a little curtsy. Rose squealed in absolute delight and Tanya had a good laugh. Flashing a charming smile, Jones went to serve other customers with tact.
"So," Rose muttered with a mouth full of food, "how about we head down to the bar to feast our eyes upon some hot guys?"
Tanya, shaking her head in disagreement, wolfed down her scrumptious bagel, trying to compensate the weeks she had been pecking on her food.
The shine in Rose's eyes immediately extinguished. "C'mon, Tanya, let's go!!!"
"I'd rather be in bed on Netflix with a bag of chips and diet coke. No thanks."
"Well, okay." Rose's face fell in disappointment. "How about I join you? We can grab a bottle of wine along the way!"
"Sounds good." Tanya replied as she signaled another waiter for the menu. 'A mini bagel is not enough to please my ravishing stomach', Tanya thought to herself, as she took the menu and scanned through the main course section. She ordered the king's platter consisting of omelettes, ham, bacon, baked beans and smoked salmon with pancakes. She smiled with enthuse, pushing the thoughts of Pete to the back of her head.
