Chapter 4

Huh? I thought confused.

"What do you mean, 'exactly'?" I said, wanting to know what this woman's deal was.

"Elle, you are different, very different, in a very good way" she said smiling so big now that it was just making me even more confused.

Wanting to know more I say "h-how? I mean..." I stumbled with my words "can you elaborate"?

She stares into my eyes continuing to smile with a new confidence as she starts to say "Elle, in a week or so when you turn eighteen something amazing will happen to you, the final transformation of what you are, of what is already you, in your blood, in your hair" she paused before saying "Elle, you are a Goddess".

What?! I thought immediately she's got to be kidding me.

Goddesses' are mystical creatures and immortal beings - imaginary, fake, fictional. None of those things applied to me. So what was this crazy lady talking about - and why was she smiling like it was the greatest news in the world. I'm really confused and have no idea what to say to get this lady out of here and give me my mother's things. So I simply just look at her with a confused look and say "Uh...look I don't know what you're talking about but I just came for my mother's things. So if you wouldn't mind just giving them to me so I can go back home now."

She almost looked hurt or offended, like it was absolutely ridiculous that I didn't believe her. Her eyes went wide as she stared levelly into mine and said "Elle, I know you think Goddesses' are mystical creatures or imaginary beings but what I am saying is the truth. I told you to trust me like you would your parents." The moment the words had left her mouth I realized she was serious and wasn't joking. How did she know I had thought of those things? Maybe it was just a coincidence I thought foolishly. But this just didn't make any sense. What even was a Goddess? I had no idea. Ivy looks at me with a knowing look - like she knows I'm thinking about all this. She opens her mouth and says "Elle, you are a Goddess."

I didn't know what this meant - I didn't know how to react - was she joking with me? I didn't think so; she seemed serious enough so far and knowing what happened with my mother I doubt she would play a joke like this. I had to finally make a decision and decide to believe her. It sounded crazy at the time but there was something about her that made me feel like I had to trust her. That's when I turn to her eyes wide and ask. "What do you mean? What is a Goddess? How is this possible? And how do you know, why are you telling me?" my mind was reeling, I needed answers, none of this made any sense at all. A Goddess? Ivy told me to erase anything I learned from anyone other than my parents, and besides movies and TV shows my parents never told me anything about Goddesses. I mean how many times does that come up in a conversation? Especially one with a mother who was never around.

Ivy is staring still smiling; she almost seems to have a little bit of worry or concern in her eyes, like she knows my thoughts and what I'm going through. She tucks some of her strawberry blond hair behind her ear and says with that confidence again.

"Elle, a Goddess is many things, a deity, a woman with great beauty and grace; we have many special abilities that you will soon learn to use and control. We are stronger, faster, smarter, and very tough. This is possible because your mother was a Goddess and your father was a God. I know because not only am I a Goddess myself but before your mother died we had talked about many, many things. She was worried about you, she had tried to protect you but she felt she was a failure. She told me that she hadn't told you what you were what you've always had in your blood, what you will become, she felt guilty. It was almost as if she knew something were to happen, she left me some things she knew she wanted you to have. She loved you Elle, really." She said that last part almost as if she knew I had doubted my mother's love.
