Darkness Falls

Chapter One - Golden Eyes

"When is Mommy coming home tonight?" Emily looks up at me with those eyes. The moonlight shining on the side of her face.

"Don't worry, Em. She'll be home in the morning when we wake up." I assure her. Truth is I had no idea when my mom would return home. I didn't even know if she would be home- I didn't even know if she was still alive after she left this afternoon.

She gave me a fake smile as if she could tell I way lying. "Thanks for the food." She says, lying back down on the hood of my car.

We were currently eating McDonald's on the hood of my car and looking up at the stars. We had this certain spot right outside of Jinkts that we always came to just hang out and act like our lives weren't completely screwed up. It was right at the edge of the woods. A long creek was the only thing separating us from the line of trees on the opposite side.

"No problem, kiddo." I ruffle her thin hair and take a big bite out of my big mac. No, we weren't the healthiest eaters on the planet but our genes made sure that we stayed slim. Although, it still probably wasn't good for our health.

She scolds me as she tries to flatten her hear back down. "Don't make that face." I frown at her. She puckers her lips and furrows her eyebrows as she crosses her arms firmly over her chest. "Awww." I mock. Then I plaster an evil grin on my face as I wiggle my fingers toward her.

Her eyes widen when she realizes what I'm doing and makes an attempt to lunge off of the car. I shoot my hands out and wrap them around her stomach, pulling her back onto my lap.

She bursts into a fit of laughter as my finger get to work on her sides. "Bwahaha! Please!" She chokes on her laugh. "Okay! Okay, I'll smile! P-please! Hahaha." I can't help but smile. "See, I'm smiling! Pahahaha!" I yank my hands away but she continues to giggle. I clamp my hand over her mouth and she stops immediately.

I didn't stop because her pleading but because of a low rumble in the woods. "Wha hmm hm." She mumbles under my hand. I take my hand away from her mouth and push my index finger against my puckered lips.

She rolls her lips into her mouth and I bring my attention back to the dark trees. The moonlight casts a shadow against them.

Grrrrrrrr.

My sister and I both jump at the noise that obviously wasn't made by any human. My eyes widen and a soft whimper comes from Emily.

"Sissy." She whines in a scared tone. I snap my eyes to see her trembling form and know that I need to act fast when another growl comes from the trees. "Get in the car. Now." I scramble off the car and yank open my door, Emily copying my actions.

I lock the doors once we're both in and jam the key into the ignition. It spits out a few rumbles before it cuts off and jerks forward a bit. My sister and We both snap our heads to look at eachother. Fuck.

My vision blurs of my sister as I look behind her. My eyes grow two sizes as I stare into the woods in horror. Two glowing, golden eyes stare back into my own green ones. What the- "Blair!" My sister cries as she follows my gaze to the pair of eyes.

I take a big gulp as I decide what to do. "Come here." I grab my sister hand and open my door. She follows me out to my side of the car and we crouch on the grass.

"I need you to go find somebody and tell them theres a car stuck down here, okay?" I instruct and her eyes fill with worry. "Do not get inside anybody's car and dont get too close to the strangers." I warn. The last thing I needed was to go on a hunt for my kidnapped sister and wind up in jail once I murdered the kidnappers.

"But-"

"No. You need to go."

I tell her. Her eyes fill with water but nothing falls out. She nods and throws her arms around my neck. I return the embrace and squeeze her back in a tight hug. "Don't get hurt." She whisper in my ear. I stroke her hair. "Don't worry, Em. I wouldn't dare leave you." I assure her.

GRRRRRR!

I jump. It was getting closer. I pull her away and tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "Go." I give her a weak smile. She doesnt return it but nods and crawls to the back of the car before sprinting down towards the road.

I sigh and hope I didn't just send her to her death. Shit. What do I do now? I drop my head in my hands. As I think of what to do next I'm pulled from my thoughts by a heat blowing on my neck. I slowly raise my head and hold my breath.
GRRRR!

I jump up and spin around to see a dark gray wolf staring back at me.
"Oh. My- Ahhh!" My body slams into the car as it lunges at me. I crumble to the floor. A sharp sting appears from where it's claws ripped my shirt and scraped the flesh of my stomach.

"Gaaaahh!" I scream out in pain and clutch my stomach. A snarl comes from the beast. I look up to see it crouched, upper lip wrinkled up to expose his fangs.

I attempt to push myself up but fail when a pain shoots through my middle. Looking down, I notice blood on my hands- probably from the slashes on my stomach. Another growl brings my attention to the wolf once again. I brace my self and squeeze my eyes shut when it pounces for my again. A high pitched squeal makes me snap them open to see the wolf flying the opposite direction of me and crashing onto his back.

My eyes become heavy as the blood soaks my shirt and pools around me.

In between my shutting eyes I catch a dark human form standing beside the wolf before my eyes shut one last time and I slip onto unconcioussness.
