Aila POV
Today is going to be a good day...
Today Is going to be a good day...
Today Is going to be a good day...
Aila continued to chant that in her head through out the day, until she her secretary Erika came in and told her that to her partner, Bob Lanerd, wanted to speak with her.
Bob was a man of few words, except when he was defending some one in the courtroom. Even at the age of 63, Bobs' steel gray eyes were fierce, and his 6'5 frame intimidated everyone that he encountered. But, outside of the courtroom, Bob was as friendly and genuine as anyone Aila had ever known, and she didn't know or talk to a lot of people. He was like the father that she never had, always giving her advice about life and how she needed to "live a little" and have fun. But Aila wasn't fun, she was serious. And nobody could change that about her.
Aila walked into Bob's office without knocking. He was on the phone when she entered the office, so Aila just smiled at him and made her way over to her favorite champagne sofa that she had sat on so many times before. He offered a weak smile back. He ended his conversation quickly and hung up the phone.
Aila raised an eyebrow.
"Whats up, Bob?"
And then he dropped the bomb on her.
"A NEW PARTNER BOB? WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE HAVE A NEW PARTNER?!?" Aila screamed. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. It had taken her two long, treacherous years to become a partner at the firm, and now a person was being hired as a partner on the spot?
"Yes Aila, a new partner. He has a great resume and would be a fantastic addition to this firm." Bob said, looking everywhere else but at Aila.
Aila narrowed her eyes at her boss.
There were three things that Bob Lanerd would never do.
1) Have coffee without milk, two spoons of sugar, and cream. (Aila knew this because she was his personal assistant during her internship at the firm.)
2) Loose a case.
3) Hire someone because they had a 'great resume'. It took Aila two years to even get an interview, and she had an exceptional resume.
So, when Bob started to tap his fingers nervously on his desk, Aila knew something was up.
He's lying.
Bob glanced at Aila, waiting for her response. He saw her narrowed eyes and immediately got nervous. Aila was the only person that could read him, and he knew he would break down under her gaze and tell her the truth sooner rather than later. That's one of the main reasons why he hired her. Any person that could read Bobby Lanerd deserved to be apart of the best law firm in America.
Aila continued to glare at Bob. She knew she could make him break.
Bob sighed. He gave up.
"He is a family friend, Aila. I couldn't say no."
"I knew it!"
Aila got up and started to pace across the office.
"I bet he's some spoiled rich kid who gets everything he wants, isn't he?"
"Ail-"
"I bet hes not even that smart! He probably barely passed law school.."
"Aila-"
"Probably because of his good looks and "charming attitude". What an asshole. What a complete and utter asshole. Stupid son of a-"
"AILA, THAT IS ENOUGH!"
