FASAIMS (8): Scenario: What if the fire that caused Cole's death never even happened?

Cory walked home from school with a smile on her face. We'll say that she never noticed the misspelling of her name on her coffee cup due to the fact that she was so distracted all day. Everything was just fine.

When Cory got to her apartment, there was a bouquet of flowers taped to door as well as a note. From Chris. It read:

Come to my place as soon as you can. I talked to Mandy, and you don't have to work today. I can't wait to see you.

Seriously?! This was awesome! Cory would have to see how Cole was doing...

Cory walked into the apartment. Cole was sitting up in bed, looking a lot better.

"Hey." He greets.

"Hey." Cory repeats, shutting the door behind her, "How you feeling?"

"Better."

"You look it. I guess you were just having a bad morning, huh?" Cory asks, going into the kitchen area to put her flowers in some water.

"Yeah, I guess. I tried to call you earlier. The building manager made everyone evacuate about an hour after you left because there was a gas leak."

"Oh my God. Was everything okay?"

"Yeah, it was fine, but I had to stand outside in my PJs for quite a while."

"Oh, sorry, bud. You sure you're okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. It was a little scary, but everything turned out to be okay. It's alright. But anyway, you ready to see Chris?"

"I don't have to go if you don't want me to. I can stay and take care of you."

"No! Go!"

"I get the feeling you actually want me gone."

"Okay, okay, Mrs. Jefferson made cookies. She said if you were working late that I could stay the night and hand out with Isaac."

"I don't know...You didn't look so well this morning."

"Please? I never get to see Isaac anymore now that he's being homeschooled, and Mrs. Jefferson's cookies are the best."

"What, you don't like my cookies?"

"You just buy the cookie dough packets and heat them up!"

"Touché. Alright, let me take your temperature first and then we'll talk."

Cory grabbed the thermometer from the bathroom and put it in Cole's mouth. A minute later, it beeped and showed that Cole's fever was gone.

"Alright, I guess you can go."

"Yes! Thanks, sis."

"No problem, kiddo. Now get dressed and packed while I do my homework."

"Okay." Cole says.

Cory then shoots a quick text to Chris.

Hey, cutie :) I'll be there around 4:30. Gotta get some work done and get Cole to his friend's place.

Chris replied shortly after, Great! Can't wait to see you. When do you need to be back?

Cory replies, Well Cole is staying over at his friend's place tonight so it doesn't really matter.

Chris comes back a moment later, Sweet, I get you the whole night ;) see you soon.
