Chapter 1

Do you know the saying the more you hate the more you love?

Ahaaa, I know that everybody seems to know that. And that saying was what Cindy Lopez always got and heard from people around her, yeah, especially from her very own dear bestfriends. To make it official, she loathed that saying so much.

While she was sitting on the passenger seat, Cindy took a glance at the driver who pretty much was humming with delight. He was smiling like an over hyper child who just got his dream toy train from his mommy and daddy.

Cindy sighed in frustration while looking at Layne. She thought how Layne could be so bubbly all the time, smiling like some psycho over and over without failing.

"What baby?" Layne, who noticed that Cindy was staring at him asked. He was still wearing that same delighted smile on his face. Cindy was quite startled and she dreadfully looked away from Layne's face.

"Nothing," she answered shortly, while she fiddled with her clutch. "You just got dirt on your face."

"Can you wipe it for me?" Layne said with a teasing voice.

"You can do it yourself Layne," Cindy retorted. "You have hands for that," she said in a matter-of-factly way.

"But I'm driving," Layne reasoned while he tried his best to put up a worth-your-pity voice. But Cindy knew better.

"Just quit it. Okay?" Cindy coldly answered.

Layne just smiled at her and continued to drive their way to the spa. He was taking Cindy to the Grand Prestige Spa to make the most of the gift certificates he got for winning the big burger challenge back then at Pub 401.

Cindy tried to relax herself from all the anxiety she was feeling. She knew that people would think that she's crazy for not even considering Layne Williams. For God's sake, Layne Williams is no ordinary man who'd come knocking on your door and then suddenly be crazy about you. But he is crazy about her. She knew that somehow. She knew that she's lucky to have Layne appreciating her all the time. But although she knew that fact she didn't have a clue what to do about it.

Maybe people would think of her as hypocrite for having blind eyes to all Layne's efforts for her. But she wasn't blind. She simply didn't like it that way. Or she did like it but that was just about it. There were things that mattered more to her. Like someone named Ethan.

Layne had been pretty nice to her. He was indeed a charmer. Thinking of it, even though he was too pestering most of the times, Layne was really sweet. He desperately made Cindy laughed 'cause you know, Layne's not really the comedian type. But he tried. Every time, he tried to win not just her attention.

Cindy thought that Layne's not that bad. In fact he's gorgeous. She knew that anyone could easily be dazzled by Layne's looks. He was tall enough for Cindy's liking. In fact, he was the tallest among his band mates. He got a pair of striking bluish gray eyes, dense lips, sparkling white teeth, sexy dimples and no matter how Cindy wouldn't like to admit it, he got a sexy body.

But Cindy still considered the fact that he is a known player and that he got hots for redheads like her. So she was just being precautious. She didn't want to be among Layne's Barbie redhead dolls collection. To top it all, she knew that there were particularly more than billions of red heads on Planet Earth. And she didn't want to feel all of a sudden competitive against that very huge number.

Cindy clasped her ruby teardrop pendant. It became pretty much a habit for her, clasping her pendant every now and then. It was a gift from Layne and it was beautiful. At times she wondered what's really wrong with her. Layne's been nothing but sweet to her to the point that sometimes his sweetness got into her nerves. But still, his sweetness was still a good thing. Most girls look for a guy that's really sweet and Layne's really sweet. But maybe Cindy's foolish enough to not let go what must be let go. And to not see things that's worth to matter.
