The pain in your lower stomach was only slightly worse than the emotional pain you had been feeling for the past few months. You weren't terribly sick, you had caught the flu from a friend and was forced into doing nothing but stay in bed by Luke's request while he took care of you. You honestly thought you'd be better off without Luke staying with you, he may have been helping rid your body of the nasty flu but he was only making the heartache he caused even worse. Yes, the cliche "I'm in love with my best friend" scenario. You couldn't help but falling for Luke; he was charming, sweet, loyal, and looked like a male model, it was nearly impossible to fight off your feelings for Luke.
It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't overhear Luke talking to Calum on the phone. Calum was trying to persuade Luke into finally asking some girl out and from what you had managed to hear, Luke was beyond nervous of the outcome. He seemed to really like this girl and to say him liking another girl hurt was an understatement; it felt as if you were hit by a bus. Honestly, you would rather get hit by a bus than see Luke happy with a girl that wasn't you. Were you being selfish? Yes, it's pretty fucking selfish but you couldn't stop yourself from feeling that way. That dam you had built to contain your feelings came down all at once and all of the feelings you had hidden away poured right out. It was awful.
"Y/N?" Luke calls out, tapping on your door lightly. "Are you awake?"
"Come on in." You croak out, your voice hoarse and dry. Luke frowns at the sound of your voice and hands you a cup of foul smelling tea.
"Your mom gave me the recipe," He says, noticing your expression. "She said it's good for colds."
"Thank you." You plug your nose and take small sips of the tea, numbing the taste as much as you can.
"How are you feeling?"
"Like shit."
"You sound awful."
"Gee, thanks, Luke, love you too."
"You know I didn't mean it like that," He smiles. His warm hand comes in contact with your forehead. "You're burning up. I'll go get you more tylenol," He says, pressing a kiss to your temple. "I'll be back." He scurries out of the room, leaving you alone with your thoughts once again.
You loved the feeling of his lips on your skin. It wasn't unusual for Luke to kiss you. He loved to kiss your forehead, cheek, temple, hand, nose, everything except for your lips. You longed to feel his lips on yours, just once. Just one kiss and your craving would be satisfied. You constantly wondered how his lips tasted, would you actually be satisfied by a kiss or would it leave you addicted to his taste? Wanting more of something you couldn't have.
"You're out of Tylenol! I'm going to run to the drug store real quick! Are you okay being alone?"
"Mmmhmm." You reply. You can hear the door slam and his car engine revving up, signifying him leaving.
Your eyes dart around your messy bedroom for something to entertain yourself with when you catch sight of Luke's phone on your bedside table. You knew snooping was wrong, but your curiosity got the best of you and you found yourself scrolling through Luke's messages with Calum. Everything seemed normal until you came across a text from Calum, it read, "How's taking care of Y/N going?" Luke's reply broke your heart. "She's driving me crazy." Well that wasn't nice to read. Were you really that much of a pain to take care of? You didn't ask for much, he got to sit around and watch TV for most of the time. He was the one who offered to take care of you in the first place, your mom would have more than happily done it but Luke insisted on staying with you until you were better.
You heard the door open and immediately placed Luke's phone back on the bedside table and grab a book, pretending to be busy. "I didn't know what type you usually got so I got a few," He says, tossing a few bottles of pills onto the bed. "You okay?"
"Other than being sick, I'm fine."
"Really?"
"Uh, yeah. Why?"
"Your books upside down." He chuckles. You look down and do see that the random book you picked up was indeed upside down. "Whoops." You blush, putting the book down.
"Luke, can I ask you something?" You ask.
"Anything." You stare at your hands instead of facing Luke.
"Am I too difficult to take care of?"
"What? No, of course not! Where would you get that idea?"
"Oh, I kinda might have read your texts with Calum. You said I was driving you crazy." You whisper, lifting your head to meet his gaze. Surprisingly, he didn't look angry, he seemed oddly calm.
"I didn't mean it like that, Y/N."
"Then how did you mean it?"
"It's been almost impossible for me to be around you without blurting out something."
"Like what?"
"Like the fact that I like you and was planning on asking you out when you got better." He mutters, looking at you sheepishly.
"You were going to ask me out?"
"I wasn't going to, I still am going to ask you out."
"Oh."
"So, uh, Y/N, will you go on a date with me?"
"I'd be honoured, Luke."
"Well, that's a relief. Now, take your medicine and get healthy so I can take you out."
