"Please let me in," My father begged, "Just give me a chance to explain, I'm sorry."

"You lost that chance when you l left me," she said quite stubbornly to the other side of the door. Then she muttered: "Little Shit,"

"Mama, why don't we at least let him explain," I said, "He might have a good reason," Secretly I was hoping he wasn't such a dick and he did care about us.

"You should listen to the girl," his muffled voice sounded through the door.

"Shut up, asshole. And by the way that 'girl' is your daughter!" She barked.

"Oh I'm sorry I couldn't just telepathically read your mind and know she was my daughter," he said sarcastically.

"YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT ANYWAY!!!" She screamed so loudly I was sure our neighbours could hear.

"Why don't we just forget what he did for ten minutes and see his side of the story," I suggested, trying to break up the fight. "And if we still don't like him we can always just throw him out" the window, I added silently.

"Fine. He can come in," she said. I heard a little yay come from the other side of the door. "But I'm not gonna forget what he did, not even for a second!"

"Fine."

"Fine."

So that's how me, my mother and my father ended up sitting at the table together for the first time since I was a little foetus, and my mum was telling my dad she was pregnant. They both sat directly opposite each other, and I sat on the side. My mother was staring daggers at him, but my father didn't seem to notice as he looked around the room.

"I like what you've done with the place," he said politely, breaking the silence, "This wasn't really the arrival I imagined though,"

"Well what did you expect? Knocking on the door and me opening it saying "Honey, you're home!" And we all have a big group hug like we're in a theatre produc-"

"Of course I didn't expect that!" He shouted.

"Well then what did you expect?!" She screamed back.

"I would have thought you would have at least gotten over me-"

"Gotten over you?!!" She cut off, furious, "I got over you the second you said you were leaving! What I didn't get over was the fact that you left me PENNILESS AND PREGNANT WITH YOUR CHILD!! THIS HOUSE WAS AN ABANDONED CRATE WHEN WE FOUND IT! EVERYTHING I DID I HAD TO DO ON MY OWN!! YOU LEFT ME WHEN I NEEDED-"

"I HAD TO, OKAY?" He shouted back.

"Oh and why is that?" She asked, much quieter, barely above a whisper. You almost hear a pin drop.

He mumbled something and looked down, concentrating on the floor.

"What was that?" She asked.

"I'm gay," he spat, bitterly, "There you go, I said it, I'm gay."

[{|Something you should know|}]
Until eleven years ago, if you were gay
you would be taken to jail and beaten.
Many people went on the run until
the king, after many protests,
legalised it and they went out of
hiding.

"Why didn't you just tell me then?" She said softly.

"I couldn't, the government had eyes everywhere and someone could have heard and I'd be taken away, you might be taken away" he replied, "I'm sorry,"

"No, I'm sorry," she said. "It's just all this time I spent believing..."

"I know," he whispered.

"That's all very sweet but it still doesn't explain why you didn't come back eleven years ago when it was legalised to tell us this," I said, startling them both. I think they forgot I was here.

"Darling, I had affairs to sort out," he said, "I was scared, I left your mother in such a bad state, I swear she wanted me dead,"

"I did want you dead," my mother continued for him, "But I'm not mad at you anymore, I forgive you." It was really incredible to see how much my mother has softened. It must have been bad what they were doing to anyone who wasn't straight. I mean I was only five at the time so I didn't really know.

"l'm gonna stay in town for a while so I'll find an Inn to sleep at so can see you guys for the next few days," he told us.

"Oh there's no need," Mother said sympathetically, "You can stay here for as long as you want,"

His face lit up, "Thank you so much..." he looked close to tears right now.

"It's all right, we have plenty of room," she said, "And it's least I can do, after all, going on the run must have been hard for you,"

"It was..." There was a pause. "Thank you again,"

"Trust me it's fine," She insisted. I still remained silent. They both looked at me for approval too.

I made eye contact with both of them before speaking, "I'm cool with it it's just that...well, I've never met you before," I told them.

"I know this is all a bit of a shock but you'll get used to me," he said, looking at me and my mother. Then, unexpectedly he stood up and hugged me. I stood frozen, shocked for a second but then I felt more comfortable and loosened up a bit. My mother joined in too and though I don't like to admit it, for a moment, I actually felt like I was in a theatre production.
