Chapter #5

The airship came close to the mountains outside of Republic City.
The marines and officers got ready.

"Alright does everyone have their pairs?" Lin added

Everyone nodded their heads.
Korra was along side Mako since she was an earth bender and could feel all the vibrations. Infact most officers were earth benders for this very reason and task.

"Alright we're pulling up!" Lin shouted due to the loud airship.

Mako and Korra grabbed hands.

"GO GO GO GO GO!" Lin screamed

Jump
Leap
Fly

Mako and Korra jumped down.
To the mountain they went.

They crashed onto a rock and realized no men where in sight. An unknown location. Korra opened up a cave and the two dove in. Korra noticed the caves they walked through were different. She stopped mako.

"Wait look at the shape of these caves, someone's down here!"

Just then instant darkness reigned over...... The opening had been sealed and there was no going back.

The two used their firebending through the caves. "So did you tell Kuvira?" Korra said shyly.

"Yea I talked to her. She was very worried if you know...."

Mako obviously did hand gestures referring to dying and Korra simply nodded understanding his gesture.

"but she knew what's gotta be done" mako said sadly.

Korra put a hand to his shoulder and just gave him a reassuring look.

"What about Asami?" Mako asked

"She's scared she's definitely scared and i can't think about it enough but she was having a feeling something would happen."
Korra and Mako both fell silent.
"But who knows, maybe I'll see her at work one day?"

Mako hit her shoulder playfully and she smiled. It was nice for both of them to have a little laugh in a time like this. It lightened up the mood and made them more determined.

The two were walking side by side throughout the caves. Passing by multiple Red Lotus insignias carved into the rock.

"Must've been an earthbender." Mako stated feeling the smooth curves.

Korra squinted her eyes and could tell not only earthbenders were here..
"Wait look on the inside of the the insignia, there are ashes and small scorch marks, gotta be fire benders too."

Mako looked around, "Stay alert and close"
Korra nodded and the two slowly walked through.

Walking slowly through the cave and tunnel like rock they came to a stop when Mako spotted something. Holding out his arm to prevent korra from walking anymore he whispered

"Wait what is that?"

"Where?" Korra looked around at the dimly lit rock around her.

Mako pointed in the nearest 3 feet of ahead of them was a small metallic ball with a small green light emitting from it. Korra had no idea how the hell he could see that or any human at all in these dark caves. Dude had eyes of an owl.

The two walked cautiously towards the device and noticed there was only one. If it had been say laser beams there would've been two at least or a line of them going down to project the beams. But this was weird and different.

Mako stepped up and huffed

"Let me handle this, I've been on devices for a while with Lin and cracking down on them"

Korra was about to protest but he cut her off "No I'm doing this, if anything happens, run. Nothing but that, just run Korra"

She nodded unsure of his doings and was ready for anything.

He slowly moved his hand out and began walking. Sweat dripping down his forehead. Just a finger out so far and now his hand. The light began to now blink red rapidly, Korra noticed this and before she could say anything it spit out fire!
"AHHH! SHIT" Mako screamed

Korra pulled him back and the device completely stopped. His entire left arm was sizzled and had bad third degree burns on it. He was in so much pain he almost collapsed with tears in his eyes.

"OH MY GOD WHA-"

"Shhhhh" Korra shushed mako with a hand over his mouth. And suddenly voices were heard.

"Hey! Who's there!" A man shouted far from the tunnel but his footsteps were close and you could hear them.

"Come on!" Korra said, she earth bender a secret hole/compartment into the right wall and the two got in and she sealed it up as quickly as possible.

The two were shaking, well one from nervousness and the other kinda had his arm burned drastically.

Mako used his free hand to firebend. The two weren't safe at all, in fact it's clear they should've just taken down the one guy who came running. It would've been better than this.....
