Zack led me through his house and to his backyard. Music was blasting over huge black speakers and everyone who was anyone was dancing or gossiping. I hurried and scanned the familiar faces until I found the one I was looking for. I stared at him but hurried and looked away when his eyes met mine. I turned to Zack and gave him my best smile and he seemed to melt into my eyes. I tried to find the feelings I had felt for him last year, but they just weren't there.

I hung out with my other "friends" and Shanelle but I always caught myself glancing in his direction. He was sitting in a metal fold out chair writing in a small black notebook glancing up occasionly. His hair was falling into his eyes and he reached up to brush it away. I let out an agitated sigh and turned back to listen to the latest gossip about who was going out with who. I laughed along with everyone else, but I wasn't really listening. After a few minutes Zack walked up to me and asked if he could talk to me alone. I shrugged and followed him over to the snack table.

"Well I was, um, wondering if, um, you would go out with me?" he stuttered out after a few akward seconds. I grinned from ear to ear and told him I would. He grinned right back and put his strong arm around my shoulders and led me back to the group. I couldn't help but look over at Conner. He was staring at me and Zack no emotion showing through his mask. I looked back up at Zack and smiled up at him.

I couldn't think of Conner in any way but as an annoying and stupid boy. I pushed away every thought of him out of my mind. Instead, for his sake, I focused on Zack. We talked and danced all night until the party was over. Me and Shanelle, who I hadn't seen all night, climbed into Zack's car and waited for him to drive us back to my house. We rubbed our sore calfes and laughed. Finally Zack climbed into the black jeep and started the engine pulling out of his driveway. I stared out the tinted window and saw Conner walking down the sidewalk staring down into his notebook.

What is he doing? I thought to myself. Zack sped the car down the street finally turning into my driveway and jumping out of the car, running over to open the door for me. I smiled and gave him my thanks giving him a goodbye peck on the cheek. His face lit up and a cherry red began to spread up his neck. Shanelle giggled as she hopped out of the car holding her shoes in her manicured hands. Zack climbed back into the car and sped away. I stared after him watching until the jeep faded away. I turned and followed Shanelle back inside ignoring her questions. All I could think about was my reserfaced feelings for Zack and my blooming fellings over Conner.
