I stood there in shock and embarrassment. I felt red hot heat rush to my cheeks and I turned to hurry away. But before I could Conner's eyes met mine and I saw something in them brighten. He tried to inch past Shanelle but she blocked his way with a perfectly manicured and tanned hand, and gave him a white toothed grin. She kept talking in her high pitched voice that I found very annoying at the moment. Conner tried to make his way past her again but she wouldn't let him go. His bright eyes never inched away from mine.

Shanelle followed his eyes and scowled when she saw he was looking at me. Her eyes narrowed in my direction, Conner took her moment of distraction and hurried past her. She tried to step back in front of him but he kept walking. The whole time I stood there akwardly waiting to see what would happen. "Can we talk?" He asked standing in front of me, Shanelle pouting behind him trying to get his attention. I smiled at him and shook my head. We walked away leaving Shanelle glaring at my back.

"What did you want to talk to me about?" I asked, hugging my bag to my chest staring down at the ground. My stomache churned with nerves and I was incredibly aware of how close he was to me. He ran his hand through his hair making it stick up like it was hit by lightning. He fingered the pocket where he kept his notebook and nervously pulled it out and flipped through it's pages. He stopped on a page and read through it, nodding.

Taking a deep breath he said, "I was wondering if you wanted to, um, a, nevermind." He hurried away leaving me standing alone in the crowded hallway. I felt the heat return to my cheeks and a mocking laugh sounded behind me. I didn't even turn to face Shanelle as she laughed at my embarresment. Instead I found my locker and got my first hour books. Even though the bell didn't ring for another 15 minutes I entered my classroom and sat down at my desk. Staring at the tan desk I ran my finger over the random doodles and thought about what Conner wanted to tell me.

I hardly registered the other kids filing in and finding their seats. I completely ignored Shanelle's mocking glare from across the room. I closed my eyes and let the sunlight streaming in from the window across from me warm my pale skin. Opening my eyes I saw Zack staring at me from his seat in the back. I saw something in his eyes, longing mabye? Did he want me back? If he asked me out againg what should I say? Looking away from him my eyes landed on Conner writing furiously in his notebook, whick was almost full. Did I really like him? What did he want to ask me? If he asked me out what should I say? But the biggest question I had was: who do I really want to be with?
