Mikey walked into school that morning, not expecting anything different. Just a day of boring lessons and their best friend Pete being annoying as usual. How wrong could they be.

Mikey tugged their beanie over their hair as they walked into their first lesson that day. Sadly and happily, it was double maths, so they'd be tortured with sums they would never use as an adult but they had Pete to keep them company.

Pete and Mikey were really close, like brothers almost. Pete thought he knew everything about Mikey. Mikey thought they knew everything about Pete. But they both kept one secret from each other. (But admittedly Pete has had it longer) They unknowingly shared the same secret, a secret that they wouldn't dare to admit to each other.

Mikey sighed, making their way to their seat at the back of maths class, not late for once which was a surprise. Pete, however was late again.

"Pete, what a surprise. You are late again." The teacher, Miss Jackson, hissed.

"It's almost summer," Pete groaned "You can't expect me to be here on time."

"Just sit down, Pete." The teacher sighed and gestured to his seat at the back of the room next to Mikey.

"She's a bitch." Pete whispered as he sat down, also turning to smile at Mikey who grinned back.

"True." Mikey replied, in the same hushed tone, not wanting to attract attention from the teacher who was in the middle of a boring lecture about how 'important' maths is.

As usual they both whispered between each other, deep in conversation when Mikey looked over at the teacher for a split second and of course, she was already looking at them both.

"Now, if you two would care to tell the whole class what you were talking about that would be much appreciated." Miss Jackson said like the bitch she was, whilst walking towards them, getting the whole classes attention.

"Well," Pete started talking. Mikey mentally face palmed as they knew that he would go on and on. "We were talking about how we are practically dying because there has not been a new season of Sherlock for like ages. Also we were talking about how johnlock is so real. Even you can't deny it Miss. Go on try to say that johnlock isn't re-"

"Pete, please shut up." She cut him off. "Now Mikey, stop taking to him. Pete, stop taking to him." She gestured to each of them as she spoke.

"Uhm Miss, Mikey is not a 'he'. They use they and them pronouns." Pete smiled sweetly, yet you could see the coldness and anger in his eyes.

"I don't care Pete. I'm pretty sure they and them refer to more than one person." Miss Jackson replied with the same amount of coldness in her eyes.

"We're leaving. You are a bitch." Pete spat at the teacher, instantly regretting it but grabbing Mikey by the wrist and leaving the classroom anyway.

"Pete," Mikey breathed as they reached the car park. "Thank you." They grinned.

"No problem," Pete replied smiling, "She shouldn't say shit like that."

They both climbed into Pete's van, knowing they shouldn't leave school but didn't give two shits. They just rolled the windows down and blasted music all the way to Pete's house. His parents weren't going to be home for a few weeks so he had the whole house to himself.
