Chapter Four:
Endless Talk
Damian
A Naturesse was captured and brought into the compound!
Ahh! Really!? Is it going to escape?
Nah, there's no chance, they put it in the most secure cell.
I still don't feel safe having one of them in around us...
Yeah, neither do I, but hey, can you imagine it!? How did they catch one?
Conversations like this one kept floating around the school and general compound all day. Just the one piece of information had sent everyone into a frenzy of useless chatter and rumour spreading.
They say it killed two guards with one swipe!
It stripped all the metal coverings on a cell in less than an hour!
Its eyes can make you burn and freeze at the same time!
I laughed when I heard that she killed two grown men with one swipe. Knock them unconscious maybe, but not kill them, surely. Even that was too much for demon... possibly...
As for the burning and freezing eyes, I could not agree more. Just one intense glance could indeed make you feel like you insides were shrivelling in the heat while your skin was snap-frozen to ice.
Cynthia was, of course, in the middle of a massive group, gleefully telling all who cared to listen about the wild girl, gesturing animatedly about every little thing that she saw and remembered.
I snorted in appreciation when a snatch of conversation was blown over to me.
Honestly, how did Cynthia manage to notice that one guards shoes were not regulation, (as they had red stripes on the side) but not that the cell that we stood out the front of and talked for many minutes held the Naturesse she so desperately wanted to find?
Zack and Christina, two of my good friends, which was saying something as I had barely any friends, were in the middle of a heated argument about whether a wild girl roughly the same age as them would be able to kill two men in one swipe.
'She's a Naturesse!' Christina squawked. 'Who knows what they can really do!?'
Zack was staring at his data pad screen, mouth a thin line, a dubious look etched all over his face.
'Yeah,' he made a small snort. 'Those demon girls; so strong.'
That hit something sore with the long haired girl sitting opposite him.
'Are you trying to say girls aren't strong enough to do any damage?' Christina's voice rose considerably in volume, eyes beginning to narrow dangerously. A feminist by all accounts, even the notion of a woman being lesser than a man had made her forget about the imminent threat of a Naturesse.
I coughed loudly, looking up from what I was doing. 'Remember, you two are arguing about the probability of a one hit knock-out on two guards, not whether girls or guys are better at...' I paused momentarily, not entirely sure of what they had been debating about exactly on this front. 'Well, at whatever it was you were saying.'
I turned back away and from behind me I heard a small, deeply exasperated sigh; the sign that Christina was rolling her eyes.
Zack and Christina argued so much, roughly about half the upper school recognised it as their own personal sport. And not just petty squabbling either, they both knew the high points of debating well, and used them to their ultimate advantage.
