As Rhett's mom pulls into the driveway of their decently sized country home, Dianne turns her head back to face her beloved sons, the younger one already well over five feet tall, almost as tall as her fifth grader, Cole. Rhett smiles at her and she returns a motherly smile back.

"Now, Rhett, sugar, I want you to go right upstairs when we get home and do your homework. Make your father proud. And if you finish early, you can watch some T.V. And, Cole, you need to leave your brother alone when you do your homework." she said to them as they got out of the Dynasty.

The young boy nodded in agreement; it sounded fair to him. Cole just rolled his eyes.

The two boys bounded up the staircase and into their separate bedrooms. Dianne smiled to herself as she headed to the kitchen to finish up dinner.

Rhett is downstairs watching his favorite show when his dad pulls into the driveway. It's about five o'clock. He comes through the kitchen door. He hears him and his mom kiss and he cringes. "Ew!" He shouts, loud enough for them to hear him. His father walks into the living room, grinning at his boy.

"Sorry son." he says laughing. He approaches Rhett and sits on the couch next to him, arm around his shoulder. Rhett smiles and snuggles closer to his father. His dad didn't always allow this affection but his work day was problem free so he was in his highest spirits. Thy watched Rhett's show for a while before Dianne called from the kitchen, in her sweet southern accent, "Boys, dinner's ready! "

The delicious aroma of baked chicken and stew permiated the entire house. The three boys scurried into the kitchen, eagerly. Each one taking a seat at the fully set table. Cole went to reach for a biscuit but his mother sternly slapped his hand away. Cole apologized and grabbed his younger brother's and mother's hand. The four bowed their heads slightly as Mama Di said grace. Finishing withan 'Amen' each family member took as much food as their plates could hold. Rhett and his mother absolutely inhaled their food at an unnaturally fast pace. They were both known for eating fast.

At the end of dinner, Dianne brought out dessert, just like every night. This time it was a lemon meringue pie. The entire McLaughlin family devoured almost the entire dessert.
