School went by agonizingly slow for the young boy. He took every chance he could get to talk to Link about tonight. And whenever he didn't have that chance, he would tell other kids all about how lucky he was and how great it would be. His peers would be mildly interested until he mentioned Link's name. That either had them laughing or pitying Rhett, though he wasn't sure why. He had no idea that kids hated his best friend, or at least found him intolerable.

But it didn't faze him much. He just wouldn't stop. His teacher scolded him multiple times for his loquacity, and eventually sent him outside. It didn't help much, though. He continued to chatter away, showing no mercy to the poor woman.

Finally, school had ended, leaving just one more obstacle for the boy. Basketball.

He had sprinted out of the school's gates in hope that if he arrived early to practice, his coach would allow him to leave early as a reward. You can't be too pragmatic in second grade.

He climbed eagerly into the Dynasty, buckling up quick. Fortunately, Cole was already in the car, so they could leave without further impatience.

After dropping off the older boy at home, Dianne and her son headed off toward the middle school for Rhett's practice.

The boy strolled into the gym, a hysterical amount of swagger in his step for an eight-year-old. Dianne chuckled lightly at the sight.

Eventually, the hour-long practice was finished. Unfortunately, it went over an unnecessary twenty minutes, leaving Dianne very upset. When 4:40 rolled around (ten minutes past) she was tempted to pull Rhett out herself. But she wasn't a woman who went searching for conflict, so she decided against it. She didn't want to affect Rhett's playing time, either.

Whether it was her fault or not, it still left the two with only ten minutes to get home and clean up quick, before Link and his mother got there.

The car was already running and waiting by the time Rhett jogged hastily outside. He jumped in quickly, and they sped off, attempting to cut a fifteen minute drive into five.

Luckily, when the preferred arrival time passed, Dianne knew it wasn't the end of the world. After all, Cole would be there to answer the door.
