Chapt. 53 ~ The Gray

'It was as if she knew what was going to happen here...' Ciel thought, still in room made for sacrifice, with Sebastian. Mute and Miko had long left the room, leaving the two noblemen alone to figure what to do next. 

"It seems like all is in order, my Lord. The missing children have been found and have assumingly returned home safely, all to the help of The Fallen Angel." Said Sebastian to finally break the loud silence. "What do you want to do now?"

"Burn it." Ciel quickly answered. 

"My Lord, but surely we would want Scotland yard to discover-"

"Did you not hear me? I said burn it!" Ciel shouted, cutting off his butler in midsentence. He recalled the memories that flashed in his head the more he stared at the platform. Ciel remembered all to well from what he endured. Emotions swirled inside his chest, causing his balled fist to shake. He was angry at the fact he remembered the trauma he went through, and that he almost had to witness happen to another child. "Leave nothing behind! Do not leave a single trace of this place! Burn it to Ash, Sebastian! That's an order!" Ciel screamed as he turned to the demon while ripping off his eyepatch, revealing their contract.

With glowing demonic eyes, Sebastian stared at his Young Master for a long while before complying to the order that he was given. Walking over to his Young Lord, he scoops him up his arms, walks over to the one of the lit candles in the room, and then sets the room ablaze. "Yes, My Lord." Sebastian smirked as he manipulated the flames to spread further throughout the mansion.  

Shortly, the mansion was engulfed in flames, and Doll had arrived on their horse with eyes wide in both horror shock. Amongst the flames stepped out with Mute still carrying the small child in her arms, with Miko beside her, and Sebastian following behind with Ciel in his arms. Mute was still in her demonic form, eyes wide, but with no telling with what emotion was swirling. But, upon the beastly sight, she sang softly, keeping the child at rest.  

"Force of nature
I'm at the mercy of your weather~

Force of nature
I'm at the mercy of your weather
And I surrender~

Force of nature
I'll let you pull me under
I can't hide
I surrender~

I always played it cool
Until I met the moon
Born in the sea
But the current's too strong

I can't resist you
Watching me underneath your glow
Is it a nice view?" 

Doll was frozen still in place at the sight of the beast she was looking at. She didn't pay any mind to Ciel, Sebastian, nor Miko. Mute's appearance had them petrified. Mute stopped singing and slowly targeted her eyes onto Doll, causing Doll to flinch in fear. "You..." 

"Wh-Who...Who are you? What's going on?! Where is Joker!?... It's you...! The woman from the rooftop that night! You were also in the audience that night too!" Doll said after finally finding the words to speak.

"Ah, yes. We did have a bit of a run-in with each other." Said Miko, but this time she wasn't smirking like she usually was. "Does this child look familiar to you? It's the same girl you, and your friends kidnapped. You attacked us for witnessing the act." 

Doll finally took notice of Ciel and Sebastian before running toward them, completely ignoring Mute and Miko, despite Mute's frightening form. "Black?! Smile?! What are you doing here?! Answer me!" 

"Get your hands off him!" Mute roared as one of her tendrils tightly gripped Doll's wrist and yanked her away hand away from her reach of Ciel. Doll whipped her head to Mute, thinking the creature was going to break their wrist. But the tendril held Doll's wrist in place. "You also took them... The children..." Mute spoke louder this time, shaking Doll to their core. "Why are you still alive?" She slowly turned her head over her shoulder with raging pupils. 

"My name Earl Ciel Phantomhive, and I am Her Majesty's Guard Dog. I dispel her worries, and Joker needed to die, along with Lord Baaron Kelvin." Ciel coldly explained. 

"No way... You're the Guard Dog... You, Smile?..." Doll was in disbelief before crying out in despair. Mute's tendril threw them to the ground where they were now facing Mute. 

"Why do you cry?... You kidnapped innocence, yet you weep for what you've lost?... Why should you be the one that is upset, when you've taken lives that are now lost? How is that fair?" Mute stepped forward with her teeth baring. 

"You'll pay...! You'll pay!... You will pay for this! I'll kill you!!" Doll screamed and got on her feet, and ran at Mute with a dagger in hand. Shadows draped over both Mute and Doll like a blanket as Mute softly whispered, 

"Unforgivable." 

Days later, the missing children had been returned to their homes of no memory of their capture. Their parents and guardians were relieved, but left Scotland Yard with countless of questions to the investigation. Meanwhile, Mute and Miko were already at the Workhouse that Joker had mentioned during his time of death. Silence filled the air as the two patiently waited for their company to arrive. Ciel anticipated they would arrive before them, so he wasn't surprised when they came into his line sight. The Workhouse was abandoned and destroyed. There was not a child in sight, waiting for Lord Baaron Kelvin. "Nothing is here." Miko stated. 

Mute hummed to her friend's response before turning her attention to a laughing Ciel. "There was nothing this whole time! Everything they thought they were protecting was long gone and they had no idea! What fools they all were! They were so desperate to preserve this place, they even died for it! We humans are a breed apart...! Sneering at desperate wishes and trampling them like insects. How dishonest, cruel, and ugly. So much more demonic than even the actual devil. I'm packed full of the same hideous stuffing as them. This is what we humans are! Don't you see!? It's who we are!" 

"....Are you done?" Mute blinked, face expressionless, and catching Ciel and Sebastian off guard with her response. "You're far different from demons. You may act like one, but that doesn't mean you are one. The only difference between is that you have a soul that aims to rise above the rest no matter the cost, even when it's in the hands of another." 

'And I think that's why I plan to stick around... Because your soul is continuing to rise above darkness, and I want to see how far it can get before reaching its end.'

Yes, this part of the story has come to an end, sort of.
