Damn it Jake! She hates you now...what does she even see in him anyways? God! I can't just grow a pair and tell her how I feel?
I manage to get myself home while mentally beating myself up about what happened. I finally reach my house as the sun is setting. I open the door and walk into the house. "I'm home!" I shout into the house. Music is coming from our living room. "Mom? Dad?" "In here Jake!" I follow my mother's voice into our living room and view the scene in front of me.
My parents are sitting in front of our sound system, each holding a glass of wine in their hands. My aunt and uncle are sitting on the couch sipping their own glasses of wine and my little 6 year old cousin coloring on the ground.
"Hi Jake!" My mom gives me a warm smile. She runs a hand through her brown hair as she sits next to my aunt Sarah. "Finally! It should be working now!" My dad says as he wipes sweat from his head. His green eyes meet mine as he pulls me to the speakers.
He presses play on a remote and hands me my electric guitar. I stare at him, with a confused look until the music starts playing. A song I know all too well starts playing. I start playing along with it and singing.
"Check yes Juliet are you with me? Rain is falling down on the sidewalk, I won't go until you come outside..."
"Check yes Juliet, kill the limbo. I'll keep tossing rocks at your window, there's no turning back for us tonight.."
I walk towards Emily and smile while still singing. The adults start clapping to the beat. Closing my eyes, I try focusing on Alex, with her perfect smile beaming down at me.
"Lace up your shoes, eh, oh, eh, oh. Here's how we do..."
"Run baby run! Don't ever look back! They'll tear us apart. If you give them the chance."
"Don't sell your heart! Don't say we're not meant to be...Run baby run! Forever we'll beeee....You and me."
"Check yes Juliet I'll be waiting. Wishing, wanting, yours for the taking. Just sneak out and don't tell a soul goodbye..."
"Check yes Juliet, here's the countdown! Three, two one, now fall in my arms."
"Now they can change the locks, don't let them change your mind..."
"We're flying through the night, we're flying through the night, way up high! The view from here is getting better with, you by my side!"
"Run baby run! Don't ever look back! They'll tear us apart. If you give them the chance."
"Don't sell your heart! Don't say we're not meant to be...Run baby run! Forever we'll beeee....You and me."
"Run baby run! Don't ever look back! They'll tear us apart. If you give them the chance."
"Don't sell your heart! Don't say we're not meant to be...Run baby run! Forever we'll beeee....You and me."
"You and me.......you and me.....you and me!"
The song stops and the adults cheer. "Jake! I didn't know you could sing that well!" "Way to go bud!" "Go Jake!" "Let's put another song on!" I smile. Emily walks up to me and hugs my legs. I give them all a fake smile as I set my guitar down. "Thanks."
"Oh that reminds me! Dinner is almost ready! Jake dear are you hungry?" My mom asks. I meet her blue eyes and shake my head. "No I ate at the Stones'." She nods her head. "Oh, that's fine sweetie. Why don't you go play with Emily. She's already eaten too." Emily walks over to me. I pick her up with a smile and take her outside to play with our dog, Ollie. "Here boy!" Emily giggles as the golden retriever runs and jumps on her.
"Ollie get off!" She giggles. I smile a little and go back to thinking about Alex. Why can't she just see that Victor is a major jerk? He'll leave her just like old news and will run towards the nearest girl. Yet she acts like he's the best person in the history of the earth! Of all the people in the earth, she chooses him. It just makes me want to....
"UUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!" I scream into the air. Emily and Ollie go quiet. I remember that they were there and turn towards them. "Why are you screaming Jake?" Emily asks as I kneel down to her height. "I'm just a little frustrated, that's all Emmy." "What happened I heard screaming?!" My dad comes out of the house and glances at me and Emily. "Who screamed?" "It's fine Dad. We're okay, I.....just saw a huge spider and...well...I got a little freaked out by it." I say, acting a little embarrassed.
He stares at me for a little and then smirks. "Must have been a big spider then." His eyes meet mine, I see a flash of concern in them but then as soon as I see it, it disappears. "Well, I'll just leave the three of you alone then." he says before walking back into the house. I sigh in relief as he goes. I glance at Emily and see her still playing with Ollie. I take the nearest stick I can find and throw it as far as I can. Ollie immediately runs after it and Emily smiles.
"Emmy?" She looks up at me with her innocent blue eyes. "I'm sorry if I scared you with my screaming. She smiles. "It's okay Jakey!" I chuckle and take her in my arms. "Let's go get Ollie back okay?" "Okay!" We walk towards the edge of my backyard and wait for Ollie to come back.
"Jakey?" I glance and see Emily watching me curiously. "Yes?" "Are you mad at Mr.Victor? He seemed nice to me." Mr. Victor! God damn, even my little cousin likes him. "No, Emmy, I'm just a little frustrated with somethings from school. But it's nothing for you to worry about okay?" She nods her head. "If you say so Jakey." "C'mere sweetie." I hug her as she giggles and hugs me back.
"Don't worry if I get a little frustrated okay?" She nods her head again and spots Ollie in the bushes. "Ollie!" she exclaims in pure joy. She runs over to him and gives him a big hug. I chuckle and take the two of them inside.
