"Welcome to Los Angeles."

Victoria unbuckled her seatbelt and stood up once the doors of their private plane opened. She retrieved her and Pola's carry-on bags and carried them off the plane while assisting her partner.

She shivered as the cold LA breeze passed her. They had stayed in the Philippines for a month, and she had easily grown used to the country's warm climate.

They went straight to Pola's general physician for her quarterly check-up, just to be safe. Over time, Vic began to notice the changes in Pola's body, most clearly during their morning walks around the village. Sometimes Vic brushed it off, convincing herself it was nothing more than the heavy humidity of their motherland.

She could say that Pola had a great time in the Philippines since she was able to meet some of her old colleagues in the business world. Victoria also had a great time seeing Pola surrounded by the people who made her happy.

While waiting for her fiancée, Victoria's mind unknowingly wandered.

She could still feel the pain manifesting physically when she saw Maureen for the first time after almost three years. And what was worse was that she was with Liam. That night, feelings of betrayal and being blindsided resurfaced.

She thought she had already moved on and forgotten everything that happened. But that night, she was comforted and held by Pola, who wiped her unending tears. Victoria and Pola's relationship was built on communication, so they openly discussed Victoria's emotional state. Besides, they were not just partners but good friends as well.

"Hey."

Vic didn't notice that Pola had already approached her.

She immediately stood up. "How's everything?"

Pola smiled softly. "Well, not worse, but still the same."

They went home to Pola's massive mansion in Bel-Air, with a view overlooking both the city lights and the ocean. Both of them had a free day due to jet lag from their vacation. They decided to hang out in the pool area, each with a glass filled with high-end wine.

"Everything is settled," Vic said as she lifted her gaze from her iPad. "Do you have any changes in mind before we send them the signed plan?"

Pola stared at Vic for a moment, taking in the features of her fiancée. "Do you really want to do this?" she asked in a hushed tone.

"What do you mean?"

"Do you really want to marry me?"

Shock and confusion were written all over Vic's face. She turned her body toward her. "Of course I do. Why would you think I don't? Did I do something wrong?"

Fear crept up inside Vic's chest. What the hell was going on?

"I just thought you'd change your mind after seeing... her."

She held Pola's fidgeting hands and brought them near her lips. "No, of course I won't. Nothing changed, babe," she said before kissing them.

"You know I will support you no matter what your decision is. That's how much I love you," Pola whispered.

"You're so selfless, and I hate it," Vic sighed before kissing her fiancée.

They made love as the sun rose, with the wind passing over their heated bodies. Countless I love yous were exchanged, countless reassurances of the love they would keep and treasure for a lifetime.

Victoria may have felt conflicting emotions when she saw Maureen in the Philippines, but it didn't change how she felt toward Pola. She wouldn't deny that deep within her, she could still feel love for the young actress until her dying breath. But it was not enough to leave the love she had now.
