After play rehearsal, I waited for my mom to show up to take me home. While I was waiting, I kept looking at the new ring on my finger that was going to be there for less than a year. I already knew that I wanted to be with Matt forever but I would have never guessed him to propose to me - on school grounds at that - with a ton of teachers leaning out the windows to watch and all the students that were crowded around us wanting to hear my answer.

I glanced up to see my sister standing over me with her new boyfriend, Michael.

"Can I help you two? Am I in the way of a corner for you to cram each other into?" I ask with as much sarcasm as I can muster.

"No, and watch the tone with me. In fact, I was wondering what you looking at that distracted you from seeing me two minutes ago?" she asked with a raised eyebrow and her hand on her hip.

"Just a new ring Matt gave me" I say honestly.

"That's like, the third this year" Michael pitched in.

"Do you have a problem with that, Mother?" I say with a bitter sarcastic tone that makes me want to laugh at his expression.

Emma just scoffed at me and turned to walk away when I got up and looked out the door to see if our mom was here yet, and luckily she was.

"Don't walk away from me. Especially when your mother is here" I say laughing at her face.

She just scowled at me most of the way home because I call shotgun almost all the time. I had to refrain from looking at my left hand because I didn't want my mom to question me just yet. I had to listen to silence the whole way so the ride seemed longer than 20 minutes, which for me, sucked because I swear, I could feel Emma's smile growing when we got into the driveway.

I hopped out of the car, grabbed my bag and ran into the house. I knew it was suspicious, but I have an excuse for everything. I ran up the stairs to my room and dropped my bag on the floor so I could rush into the bathroom and hide from my family.

"Hey, open up. I have to take a shower, you know" I faintly heard Emma through the door, but I knew she was snapping at me, as usual.

"Hold up. I'm doing something" I say turning the ring around so no one would see the whole thing and flush the toilet for effect.

I walk over to the door, open it a crack, and peek out at Emma. I make a weird face at her and she is supposed to mimic it to come in, but just scowls at me.

"Don't start looking like K from Men In Black. Because that's how he smiles" I say jokingly.

I don't get a response, just her shoving the door open and the door pushing me to the wall behind me. I just roll my eyes and walk out as quickly as I can, knowing it was crucial to my health. I walk back to the bedroom and plop onto my bed, turning my tablet on as I plop. While I waited for my tablet to turn on, I turned the ring back around to look at it again.

I finally noticed that my tablet was waiting for me to put in the password, so I put it in quickly and pressed enter about seven times. I went to my camera (which is, sadly, only on the front) to get a picture of the ring. After about ten shots, I went through them and decided what picture looked best out of them all.

"What ya taking pictures of, Abs?" my mom asked, scaring the crap outta me.

"Uhh, just this new ring I got today"

"Really? Looks too pretty to be a regular ring" she said with an eyebrow raised and tongue pushing out her cheek.

"Well, of course it isn't!" I snap but quickly cover my mouth with both hands, left one, unintentionally, on top.

"Abbey?! He proposed?!? And have I even met him yet?" she snapped at me right as Emma walked through the door.

"Mom! It's Matt, mom. And I've kinda wanted this to happen for a while, so..." I say trying to calm her down a little.

Emma is just standing there, mouth gaping open. I can't help laughing at her face because of the way she is looking at me.

"How is it that you can keep a guy for so long, like two years, and I have a hard time with four months?" Emma said after regaining her composure.

"Umm, actually, it's forever" I say quietly.

My mom is just standing there looking really pissed at me for saying yes to Matt, but I don't care. I love him, and that's what matters to me at this moment. Neither of them said anything for five full minutes, and that's when the questions started.

"Why did you say yes?"

"When will the wedding be?"

"Why didn't he say anything sooner?"

"What were you thinking to say yes without your dad's approval?"

That's where I couldn't take anymore because I only heard those four out of the several they threw at me. I had forgotten about my daddy's rules about marriage.

"I don't know what daddy is gunna say, but I know he won't be too happy, but I guess - no, I know - that he can't do anything now. This was my choice, and that's how it was when I said yes to date him, when I said yes today. You can't change anything. It's not like TARDIS's are floating around and you can change my past" I say trying to get my point across to the two of them. "My life, my choices, ok?"

"I'm just glad you made a decision that will make you happy later in life" my mom said trying to be helpful even though I could see how mad she is at me. "Are you sure you want this?"

"Yes. More than life itself" I whisper as my mom hugs me tightly.

I can feel a tear slip onto my shirt that can only be from my mom. I hug her back tightly and look over her shoulder to see the one person I hadn't seen since second grade, and lost consciousness.
