"Can we go back to the days when love was strong? Can you tell me how a perfect love goes wrong? Can somebody tell me how to get things back the way they used to be? Oh God give me the reason.....I'm down on bended knee" I sang walking through the candy isle of the grocery store."Ay ma! Lemme git yo numba!"
'Not this guy' I think to myself. I keep walking and pretend like I don't hear him.
"Ay gurh! Ay gurh! Holla at ya boy!"
'Just keep walking......Just keep walking' All of a sudden I'm pulled back by a yank on my arm and I'm face to face with the ugliest man I have ever seen in my life. Now my mama taught me to see people for who they are on the inside, but Lord I think she would understand where I'm coming from this one time.
"I know you heard me calling you" he said cockily.
The only thing I could think was 'I know he did NOT just grab me'. Now there a lot of things I will tolerate; like my nephew peeing on me when I opened his diaper or waiting in a super long line for a new book. Heck I even tolerated Linda Black puking on me in the second grade when Michael Lard dared her to eat the class jar of gummy worms, but I will not tolerate disrespect. Mama did not raise a fool.
"Bruh. If you don't let me go you better" I snarl at him.
"Quit playin' hard to get" he had the audacity to say.
"Let me tell you something. Don't you ever and I mean EVER try to talk to a woman by yelling like you don't have any sense. I know your mama taught you some manners. Who do you think you are coming in here with some played out shoes, oversized jeans, and a fake gold chain? And I know it's fake because I can see the green ring around your neck. Now I suggest you let me go before something, other than your feelings and breath, gets hurt" I snap.
'That was good Shay. Pat yourself on the back.' I think to myself.
"What you gon do huh? You ain't nuthin but a spoiled uppity lil bi-" and before he can finish the rest I hit him with a right hook my big brother would be proud of and I give him a knee to his private area that I'm proud of.
He screams, his eyes rolls to the back of his head and he drops to the ground unconscious.
"Whoa" I hear a deep voice behind me go, "What did he do to you?"
I turn around and it's Derek along with thing one and thing two.
"What makes you think I did that?" I asked
"Well considering I got here around the time your knee connected with his doodle and berries, I sort of assumed that you were the one to make him scream like an opera singer on opening night", he says chuckling.
"Shay that was so cool!" Jake says as he gives me a high five.
"Thanks bud" I say.
"Where did you learn to do that?" the little boy asks excitedly.
"My big brother taught me how to defend myself when we were growing up" I tell him.
"Could you teach me?" he asks.
"I don't think so son. Violence is not the answer" Derek says interrupting our conversation.
"Mmmm I don't think I agree with that" I say disagreeing with Derek "I think there are times for violence like when you have to defend yourself"
"I think there are other ways" He says back.
Before I can reply back Mr. Unconscious wakes up, sees me and shrinks back in fear.
"Stay away from me you psycho woman!" he yells.
"You have a blessed day" I reply politely. He scrambles out of the door.
"Well you guys" I say, "Nice seeing you but I need to get the rest of the things on my list and check out".
"Have you found a place to stay yet?" Derek asks me.
"Unfortunately, no" I reply.
"You can stay with us!" Lily says.
"Yea please dad? Can Shay stay with us? Nanny Maria just quit and you need someone to watch us while you're at work! Please dad?!" Jake begs.
Derek hesitates and then ask if I would like to be the kids' nanny. I nodded my head and asked "Are you sure?"
He replied, "Are you sure?"
