Chapter 20: Best of Friends

Khalil's P-O-V

"Khalil! Talk to me!" Karina said pulling on my arm.

"Karina leave me alone. "

"But, I want you back, Khalil. I'm sorry for whatever I did."

"See? You don't even see what you did that was wrong. You are mean and self-centered. The only reason you probably messed with me was for popularity purposes."

"It wasn't like that!"

"Yeah whatever."

"Why are you acting like that? Is it because I treated that skank the way a skank should be treated?"

"She isn't a skank Karina! Understand that!"

"I'd beg to differ. Why do you care about her so much anyway? One, she's with Kwame and doesn't even give you the time of day, and two she's a smut."

"But she still manages to be ten times better than you as a person!" I yelled storming off.

I was officially done with Karina. She disrespected Serene long enough. I got into my car then drove home. I feel terrible because Serene is not accepting my apologies and she doesn't seem to be budging, but one last try for the day shouldn't hurt.

I left the house then walked across the street over to her house. I knocked on the door and she opened it.

"Hi."

"Hey," she said looking at the ground.

"I, uh, I came by to say s-"

"Hush and give me a hug... best friend."

I hugged her tightly smiling. She finally forgave me. After all of these years she finally forgave me. I was happy to have her back into my life. I was completely ecstatic.

"What made you change you mind?" I said as we separated from each other.

"Jalil... and what you said earlier. But mainly Jalil."

I laughed as I looked over to see Jalil smiling at us, "Ya'll buddy, buddy again, huh?"

"Yes we are brother. Indeed we are."

He laughed, "Now don't you feel better? Maybe you two can start dating and you can get rid of that Kwame fool."

"Jalil, Kwame is not a fool. He is my boyfriend and I love him."

"Yeah whatever," he responded walking away.

"Love you, JaJa!"

"Don't call me that!"

We laughed and she pulled me over to the couch.

"So... How are you? I mean, it's been a while since we actually talked," she said looking at me.

"I know, but I'm just really happy that we're friends again."

"I'm happy too. I missed you 'Lil."

"Missed you too, Reeny."

"Aw, but what's up with you and Cruella DaVille?"

I laughed, "Karina and I are over."

"Why?"

"Because she was always mean to you."

"So you dumped her for the sake of me?"

"Yeah, plus she was too stuck-up most of the time. Unlike you who is always just chill."

"That's a cheerleader for you."

We continued to converse until it got late and I had to get home.

"So, see you at school, best friend?" I asked walking with her to the door.

"Yup. At school."

We hugged one last time and I went home smiling like a loon. I have her back, I have her back, I have Serene back! I replayed old memories in my head as I drifted off to sleep.
