I knew it had to be done. I knew it all along but now that we were actually doing it I was scared. She grabbed my hand "It'll be okay" I nodded swallowing the lump in my throat. We walked in together, the lady at the front desk seemed annoyed as she cleared her throat to get my attention "Oh um yes... We're here to see Andrea Swift" the lady nodded as her face softened just a touch "Down the hall and take a left. And hey, she's a fighter. She'll pull through" I nodded and Karlie smiled at her "Thank you" we said at the same time and walked toward my mother's room" Karlie was jittery and looked like she had something to say "You okay?" I asked softly and she turned to me and nodded "Yea totally" I took a breath and entered my mothers hospital room. "Taylor is that you?" My mothers soft sweet voice filled my ears and I hugged her. "Nice to see you again Miss Swift" Karlie spoke politely to my mother and I found it quite attractive. Mom laughed "Andrea is fine" Karlie nodded and then turned to me "Taylor I've been wanting to do this for a long time but I could never find the right time or place to do it. But I figured with your mother here to witness it this is as good a time as any..." She paused and I was just about to ask her what she meant but she knelt down and held out a small ring "Will you marry me?" The proposal was so sudden but I was elated "Of course Kar!" She hugged me tightly and kissed me. Mom had tears in her eyes, I knew she was happy for me and Karlie both. Karlie laughed and turned to my mother "Thank you for trusting me with her" Mom laughed gently "Karlie dear, you were already a part of this family and now it's official" It was about time for us to get going so we both hugged her one last time and hurried out the door so she could get some rest. "Karlie I can't believe this" "Well believe it my love. We're getting married"
