CHAPTER FIVE: Molesting Lizards

"If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner."

____

Luna awkwardly kicked the air, feeling a bit lost in the conversation. "Okay, but does the book say anything about how to find the person controlling the Kanima?" she asked, her voice carrying a touch too much volume. Enough for Stiles to quickly shush her, his eyes roaming around as if someone would be able to sneak past Scott, a literal werewolf.

"Not really, but Stiles was right about the murders," Allison chimed in,

And Stiles couldn't help but do a victory dance while loudly whispering, "Yes!"

Luna shushed him right back.

Allison rolled her eyes at the antics before continuing, "Like the wolf, its power is greatest at the moon's peak. Similarly, the Kanima is a social creature but where the wolf seeks a pack, the Kanima seeks a master."

"They call the Kanima a weapon of vengeance. Used to carry out the bidding of its master. There's this story in there about a South American priest who uses the Kanima to execute murderers in his village." Well, Luna didn't think that sounded too bad. There was actually some kind of twisted sense of justice to it, really.

Well, except for the fact that none of the people that were killed by the Kanima were murderers themselves.

"Until the bond got so strong that it killed whoever he wanted it to."

Okay, that sounded a lot worse.

"There's the thing though. The Kanima's actually supposed to be a werewolf but it can't begin to—" Allison stopped abruptly as the librarian walked past them. It was like one of those 'act natural' moments where everyone does sexy poses in an attempt to look inconspicuous.

"—until it resolves what's in its past, which manifests it," Scott finished once the lady passed them.

And Luna genuinely wondered how they were supposed to stop Jackson from killing people without getting killed in the process. She certainly didn't possess any magical healing powers, and neither did Allison or Stiles for that matter.

And from what Allison shared, they couldn't just take the simple route of getting Derek to turn Jackson. Jackson had to kill others himself to become what he was destined to be—a werewolf.
