Chapter Two

“Fuck… do you have another one on yah?” A boy sighed as he leaned back against a brink wall behind some abandoned warehouse, He look at his hand that was holding a white stick. Bits of powder and smoke came out from its end.

“Sorry, I’m out…” The other boy said apologetically, He slid his back against the wall, landing next to his friend. He ruffled up his blond and pink spikes and blinked several times because his eyes were glassy.

Both of the boys took their green drug and inhaled into them. As they exhaled with a sigh, their breathing became heavy with smoke and other fumes. The puffs of white stood out next to the broken down building. The blond, pink boy reached out his hands to grasp a hold of the little white specks, but they dance around and through his fingers.

“You should give me more Janey.” The boy begged to his friend, he reached and pulled at the other boy’s blond and pink spikes to show that he meant it.

“I told you, I don’t have anymore and even if I did I wouldn’t anyway. Also it’s Jan not Janey.”

“But I like calling you Janey. Why won’t you give me anymore?”

“Dude, your completely stoned right now, I think you’re as your limit.”

“What’s the point if you can’t get me all high?”

“You are high if you’re calling me Janey.” Jan leaned back and scratched his neck mumbling slightly. “Hey Chad.”

“Yeah.”

“I have to get going.” Jan got up and brushed the dirt off his skinny jeans before waving to his friend and heading to the front of the building. He pulled his jacket up closer to his face and put his hands in his pockets with his thumbs sticking out. He turned a corner and stopped at a local gas station and bought himself a Jones. He knew those drinks were sugary as hell and two in one day would still be a lot, but he did need that rush of sugar high along with the drug he had taken. A nice long nap was next on his to do list.

After thanking (flirting with) the counter boy who blushed and waved with a smile, mysteriously looking down at his pants hems, Jan set off to another road, only this one didn’t look at all trashy. White, blue, and green houses with porch swings and window shutters made themselves into even rows down the straight cement that Jan walked on. The last bits of sunlight were fading to a deep purple.

He sneezed. Damn the setting sun.

A dog barked and started running towards him; a black lab with a red and black collar.

“Buddy!” The lab leaped and stood with its two front paws against its owner’s chest, its tail waged ferociously.

Jan ran Buddy over to a white house with green trim and window shutters. Several flowers were planted along the border of the house. The lab scampered around in circles till Jan reached the door where his mother stood in her blue buttoned dress and white apron.

“Welcome home Jan.”

“Hey mom.” Jan gave his mom a hug and a quick kiss on the cheek before heading to the kitchen. “Do I smell brownies?” He had always had a thing for sweets.

“Hun, you’re as bad as the dog, don’t start begging.” She rolled her eyes.

“Please? Just one?” Jan bat his lashes with a pout that turned into an exaggerated smile.

“Not today sweetie. Now go wash up, dinner is about ready.”

“Fine, fine.” Jan went up the spiral staircase that led to his room… or the attic. He welcomed himself in the wood covered floor room that had a ceiling and window trim swarmed with yellow fairy lights. A desk that was to his left had a cat sitting on it. It was a fat orange one that meowed at him before hoping down to rub against his leg.
