"Didn't I say that drawing suspicion to yourself is bad news?" C.C. chided.
"A game of chess wouldn't bother anyone." L.L. replied. C.C. scoffed and flipped over on the bed, it was late night at the inn, the room they were in was a small one as the town they were in was not the most modern, they had a bathroom with a leaky shower and sink as well as no air conditioning and ripped curtains that looked a century old; the television was a model so old that the L.L. haven't even heard of it before, but after a week of travel, they were quite used to their less then ideal accommodations, but there was one problem with this one...
"So are you going to sleep with me tonight or on the floor?" C.C. smirked at L.L. There was only one bed in this inn, and the floor wasn't exactly suitable for sleeping. L.L. grimaced and gave a disgusted response.
"Take the bed, I'll be fine." He muttered as he grabbed some bedsheets from closet, not wanting to fall into C.C.'s trap. C.C. pouted and grabbed the remote control from the nightstand, fiddled with the aged buttons and managed to switch on the ancient television after struggling for a while. The television turned on to the news channel, it had a live footage of Nunnaly and Zero beside empress Tanzi and Xingke with two familiar scientists in the background, surrounded by a mob of people, the four of them looked uneasy as the reporter started talking.
"The United Federation of Nations has approved the increased fundings of the P.E.A.C.E., the Protective Equalizing Ace Cannon Equipment, a prototype weapon designed to disrupt a human's nervous system and render them unconscious, even through Knightmare Frames, the performance of this weapon is-" C.C. shut down the television hastily and turned to L.L. with a worried look on her face. L.L. did not change his expression and stared at the wall, his eyes seeming more far away then the distance that separated them.
"L.L.... you could always return, I'm sure your sister would love that." L.L. held his expression for a few moments then sighed and lied down, his mind gone to the past, wandering over the experiences that had happened.
"No, I no longer have a place in their future, it's for the better." C.C. smiled sadly and brushed her hair backwards, the expression on her face was one of sad understanding. They both heard an explosion outside, immediately followed by yelling and screaming. They both jolted upright and looked at each other, and then ran to the one window in their room floor boards creaking as they went.
The sight outside was a nostalgic one, there were Knightmare's in the streets firing what seemed to be explosive shells randomly everywhere, buildings were on fire, people were running for their lives, this seemed to be some kind of attack.
"Well C.C.? Should we assist?" L.L. held a neutral expression, intervening would put them at risk of being discovered, however sitting there while innocent people are killed for no apparent reason did not bode well with them either. C.C. shook her head and was about to respond when suddenly they heard footsteps running up the stairs. They held their ears to the door and heard screaming from the other room as well as shouts of alarm.
"Looks like we have no choice but to intervene." C.C. stated, "So, how shall we deal with this situation without the Geass?" Before they could finish, soldiers kicked down their door and opened fire upon the two, filling them with bullets.
"Move on!" And with that, they left for the other rooms. The two Immortals, stunned at the sudden attack, sat up slowly.
"Uhh," L.L. blinked rapidly, "This Immortal power is quite straight forward isn't it? You don't die. And that is pretty much it." C.C. laughed and stood up.
"You get it now?" C.C. wiped the blood off her face, "Hmm we shall have to return the favour." L.L. smiled and responded with a devious grin.
"I have a plan."
