4 Rescues and Revelations
Lucifer
I spread my massive raven-black wings to their full length, brought them up and beat against the non-existent wind, forcing them to their limit and pushing myself above the trees, not caring if there was anything else that could see me even without the light of the moon.
The wolves were closer to her now, only five yards away from the circle of the clearing and she was in the same position she had been in when I left her to take care of the hungry animals.
I could not simply get so close to her now and reveal to her who and what I am. One of the wolves was already in the circle of the meadow and the girl had shot up to a crouch, holding her hands out between her and the wolf, probably hoping to show that she didn’t want any trouble.
You poor naïve little girl.
Now the other wolf had decided to join in the circle and together the wild animals were closing in on their soon-to-be dinner.
After a few excruciatingly long seconds, the girl turned-tail and ran at a dead sprint towards the trees opposite to where the wolves made their entrance. She was doing it again. Running faster than any human could possibly hope to, and even with this untrained skill she managed to stay out of reach of the two starving beasts for thirty seconds before I noticed that she was slowing down, and the wolves would catch up to her, and eat her—which I would not allow.
Before I could even consider the ramifications of my actions, I dove to the ground in front of her, stopping her dead in her tracks as she ran head first into my chest. She didn’t even see it coming. As soon as I made contact with her, I knew immediately that she was not at all human. Of course I would be right. Before she could fall flat on her ass I wound my arms around her tiny frame and held her head to my chest with one arm while I wrapped my other around her petite waist. I finally had her in my arms—albeit in circumstances that were completely unexpected, but facts are facts. I just hope I don’t crush her.
Making sure she couldn’t see anything, I beat my still exposed wings to the ground lifting us into the air. I brought us about thirty yards away from the charging and confused wolves then before I let her out of my hold, drew my wings into my back so she wouldn’t pass out from the shock that I am sure has been building up since back at the meadow.
Delilah
I turned tail, hauling my ass out of there, sprinting across the damp grass into the trees, hearing the two wolves snarling right at my heels the whole while. I didn’t have much hope of surviving this without the help of a miracle.
I was able to keep out of their reach—dodging trees, roots, low-hanging branches and boulders that I swear just wanted to be in my way—for a grand total of thirty seconds, when I got my miracle.
Obviously, a miracle is never what you expect to happen, and my current predicament was no exception.
He came out of nowhere, almost like he fell from the sky. It was so dark, I couldn’t make out any features of this stranger, but I did know one thing—he was solid as a rock, and ten times stronger.
I only knew this because as I was running through the forest (at a flat out sprint away from hungry wolves, might I add) I crashed into his still standing form, and actually bounced off him face-first, and was going to fall flat on my back had he not wrapped his arms around me to hold me up right.
I didn’t have any time to process what the Hell happened before he caught me up in his arms, holding my head against his very warm chest.
