I couldn’t let him just walk away! No matter what he said, if he had even a little bit of Karter left in him, I’m sure to get through! This I knew for certian.
I pulled myself to my feet and rubbed the tears from my cheeks. I didn’t want him to see that I had been crying.
I ran out into the hallway, and was quick enough to catch a glimpse of him turning the corridor. I ran after him, disregarding how stupid I must have looked, and on my first day of school too.
“Karter!” I shouted. “Karter, wait for me.”
He turned around when he heard my voice.
“What do you want?” He asked snidely. “Didn’t I already tell you that I am not the Karter you remember?”
“That doesn’t matter! Because even if you aren’t the same, you still have his memories, right? And even if the Karter I knew no longer exists the way I remember him, even if you have changed a lot, you are still Karter, right? It’s impossible to become a different person so easily.”
“It’s more probable than you think.”
“But you must still be Karter, because if Karter no longer existed then I.... I....”
“I see. You loved the old me.”
“Yeah. More than you can ever imagine.”
“Is that the case?” I nodded. “Then it’d be idiotic to lose you.”
“I’m really surprised. I didn’t think you’d give in so easily.”
“It was him,” He pointed to his head, “He loved you too.”
I smiled widely.
He turned to walk away.
“Wait!” I called after him, “When will we see each other---”
“We sit next to each other in Art. Idiot.”
“Oh, sorry. I forgot.”
He walked away. I let him leave, feeling slightly uplifted. He might have changed, but not everything was lost....!
