It's Not Bonfire Night

"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"

I don't need to explain what I'm doing here, do I?

With pure human instinct, I curl myself into a ball, shut my eyes tightly and scream as if there is no tomorrow. Let's face it though, there is no tomorrow.

I brace myself for impact, yet the next thing I know, I'm surrounded by cold air, and even colder arms.

Ayato gently places me onto the ground. My eyes aren't on him. My eyes are on the limo burning in front of all of us, consuming a tree in the same dangerous glow.

"What the hell?" He questions to himself, yet I hear it as well. "You're heavy, do you know that?"

"There goes your thank you." I mumble to myself.

"Do you want me to throw you in there?" He questions.

"Hey, look! Your 'thank you' came back! Thank you Ayato!" I quickly show my gratitude.

Damn vampires and their high level hearing. I grumble to myself internally as I stand on my two feet.

"So," I start. "Who decided it would be a good idea to make bonfire night earlier than usual?" I ask. "Or was it some kind of car accident?"

"Don't say something so foolish." Reiji mildly scolds. "The vehicle's driven by a familiar from the demon world."

Note to self: Remember to ask Reiji what the hell a familiar from the demon world is.

"It doesn't look like this was a mere coincidence." Shu observes.

"Then what do we call this?" Kanato asks, holding Teddy.

"I would say, something close to attempted murder. You guys may be immortal, but I'm not." I answer flatly.

"It's their fault, isn't it?" Laito suddenly speaks up.

We all follow his gaze to a level of higher ground. Where there are four boys standing and watching the scene.

With the poor lighting of the moon now behind clouds, I can see that they're in some kind of school uniform, but I can't see their faces. The others might be able to though, with their super sight and stuff.

It sucks to be me sometimes.

I sense a tense atmosphere with the stare down between the Sakamaki brothers and the mysterious people.

Ayato steps forward. "Who the fuck are you guys?!" He yells.

The moon slightly reappears from behind the clouds, just in time for me to see one of their lips moving.

"Eve."

My eyes widen at the sound of the name. It was the same voice in the dream I had earlier today. How?

A cloud of smoke obscures them from our vision, and when it clears, they're gone.

"Just now...their scent." Kanato drawls.

"It stinks." Subaru sneers.

At least he's honest.

"Looks like they're our comrades." Laito says with a smirk.

"In other words, they're also vampires, aren't they?" I confirm.

"It doesn't appear they're purebloods though." Reiji explains.

"This sure has become a hassle." Shu sighs once more. Although with his relaxed stance and the fact that his headphones haven't come out of their rightful place, it doesn't seem like much of a hassle to him.

"I see." Ayato says with a grin on his face. "So this is a declaration of war, isn't it?"

Over what exactly?

"Interesting." He remarks with a manic smile.

I take this opportunity to think to myself. Things have been going pretty well over the last month and now with my nightmare and this car crash, everything seems to be going downhill; again.

But there are two things that are going to bug me until I figure out the answer.

Who are those guys we just saw. And why did the one speaking sound like the person talking to me in my dream?

.o0o.

"Wow, that can't possibly be the limo we had earlier; it was completely trashed." I remark as I meet the brothers outside of the school.

"Of course it's not, you idiotic mortal." Reiji snaps. "We had a replacement brought to us as soon as possible."

I really hate you sometimes, Reiji. Did I do anything to you today? No. So stop acting like you got a stick up your-

My thoughts are interrupted by Laito's chuckle. "Little Bitch looks like she's out to kill." I bristle as he wraps his arms around my shoulders. "I wonder if you still have that knife on you." He whispers into my ear.

"You're going to find out if you don't get the hell off of me." I threaten.

"Feisty as ever..."

"As she should be! She belongs to Yours-Truly!" Ayato sneers as he snatches me away from Laito's grip.

"Here starts the fighting again." Shu sighs.

"It is your fault, you know." I point out. "You're the one who gave the green light on the blood sucking."

He opens a lazy eye. "Don't do anything that you'll end up regretting."

'Or you'll end up regretting it badly.' I sense the hidden threat beneath the warning.

"Eliza, do you remember that you said that you'd make me and Teddy something special today?" Kanato asks.

"Oh yeah!" I suddenly recall as I start searching through my bag for the plan I made earlier in English class.

Don't judge me! I already know English!

"I swear that I put the plan in here somewhere..." I mumble. Although the more I search, the more dread grows in my heart. "Crap, I must've left it back in English or something. Do you guys mind waiting for five minutes?"

Reiji gives me one of his looks.

"I won't mess anything up for you for the next two weeks." I offer, crossing my fingers behind my back as I do so. Come on, I can't predict the future.

Reiji sighs, "Five minutes. But if you're a second late you can expect the whip for the next two weeks."

"Thank you!" I start to make a run for it when Subaru holds me back.

"You do have the knife I gave you, don't you?" He asks softly.

"It's in a pocket I made in my blazer. Thank my mum for the sewing skills she passed to me." I whisper back.

With an understanding nod, he lets go of my arm and I start running back into school.
