Chapter 8 part 2
song of the day:
Heart Beats by Hey Marseiles
The berg finally descends, causing this heap of metal to shake violently and I grasp the chair handle firmly to keep me from crashing into the floor. The rattling just doesn't stop there. The berg door slowly declines, sweeping up earth in its path.
I stare, my eyes in awe at what's before me and I swallow hard. Oh my fuck!
"Holy shit," Brenda mumbles to me, not keeping her eyes off of what's in front of us. Everyone is giving that, Holy fuck! Face.
Gally is the first one attempting to approach the scene.
"Gally," I croak out, warning him to be careful.
He stares at me, with his wide bulging eyes and nods and continues forward.
All I see next is a haze of midnight blue run at him, Gio. She taps him so he knows she's going with him. He gives her those concerned boyfriend eyes to go back to the others, but she responds with those persistent eyes. She's going to stand by his side. He doesn't argue, and they both head out. I know I wouldn't want to go out their alone either.
"Well Shank, what do you see?" Minho slices the silence.
"Besides the whole valley of dead bodies, just a bunch of rubble." He responds.
"Wait!" Gio interrupts, "I see something shimmering in the light."
"I see it as well," Gally concurs.
"Oh great!" Minho says sarcastically. "I'm happy you guys can see, but can you tell us what is it?"
"Come out and see for yourself scaredy cat," Gio answers.
I stand up and grab Brenda's hand and the Gladers follow as well, we all get out of the berg enter chaos.
The stench of death reeks. I cover my mouth in disgust, the smell is just as unbearable as looking at the bodies. Brenda shrieks when she steps into a pile of brains. I hug her tightly. "It's okay Hun, we'll be okay." She nods and wipes her eyes, and shakes her foot, trying to get the brains off.
To give you a better description of the scene, It's like entering the walking dead. People bathed in their own blood. Messing limbs, heads decapitated. Brains splattered, eyes messing, necks bitten into, noses gone. Tons of flesh, so much. There must be over a hundred bodies, all looking like they were murdered by other humans, themselves, cranks and like someone was eating them. I want to vomit so badly, but I have to stay strong for Brenda.
"This is bloody gross!" Newt says cantankerously, as he gives a grimace at the dead bodies.
"I can testify to that," Frypan concurs.
"Stop complaining shanks, we're almost there," Minho reassures us. Great, we're walking into the unknown.
"What do you think happened here?" Brenda asks, interrupting my thoughts.
I pounder on that thought for a few seconds. "The virus. It drove them all mad. Humans can't cope with things they don't understand. They can only respond in more chaos. They probably started rioting, killing themselves and others, thinking that ending the pain they felt inside could end what was happening around them-"
