"Elsa, Elsa, wake up!" Anna, only five years old, climbs onto Elsa's bed.
Elsa was three years older than Anna; she was eight.
"Not now, Anna. Go away."
Anna sighed. It was always like this. She was about to head back to her bed, but she wasn't going to give up.
"Get up, Elsa!"
"This early, Anna?"
Anna jumped on top of her, making her grunt in surprise a little.
"The sky's awake, so I'm awake."
"Go back to bed, Anna."
She pouted, rolling her eyes and sighing. Elsa always did this. Just because she was older, she thought she knew everything and could tell her sister what to do. But Anna knew what would make Elsa get up.
"Do you wanna build a snowman?"
Elsa smiled, opening one eye and hopping out of bed. They headed to the Great Hall, or the Great Room, and Anna jumped up and down excitedly.
"The magic! Do the magic!"
Elsa put her hands together and concentrated. She made frost spiral out of her hands. She then lifted up the bottom of her dress. She stomped her foot to the ground, causing the floor to become blanketed in snow and ice.
Anna smiled and laughed, running, well, sliding, to a pile of snow in the middle of the room. She climbed up on the snow pile, not paying attention to what she was doing. She was jumping to and fro snow piles, having the best time of her life. Elsa shot out her ice magic from her hands, making safe and sturdy snow columns to give Anna a safe landing. She struggled to keep up with Anna, trying to keep her safe from falling and hurting herself. Anna was paying no attention; she was having too much fun. Until, all of a sudden, Elsa misaimed and hit Anna in the head with her powers. Anna fell, hitting the snow below her.
"Anna!" Elsa yelled, rushing to her side. "Anna, no!"
Elsa looked around, not knowing what to do. Then she shouted for the only people in the castle she knew could do something.
"Momma! Poppa!"
They burst through the doors, running to Anna as soon as they saw her.
King Adgar, Elsa and Anna's father, lifted Anna's head. "What did you do?" He glowered at Elsa.
"W-w-we were playing, and she fell. I hit her...it was an accident..."
Adgar looks at his wife, Queen Idun, and declares,"We'll go to the rock trolls. They'll know what to do."
So off they went, to the rock trolls just outside the kingdom. As soon as they got there, the rock trolls, sleeping in perfect little rock balls, awakened. Their hair was made of mud and grass, their bodies made of stone. They had magic of their own, and could do many things with it. The most powerful and wisest was Grand Pabbie, the keeper of the magic.
"What is the problem, your Majesty?"
"Our little girl. She's so cold and freezing. Can you help her?"
Pabbie examines Anna, already knowing what caused this. He knew about Elsa's powers ever since she was a baby and she sneezed snow.
"Aw, yes. She was struck in the head by the magic. If it had been her heart, she would have frozen."
Elsa shudders.
"Is there anything you can do?"
Pabbie nods. "You were lucky it was her head and not her heart. The heart cannot be easily persuaded, but the mind can."
Pabbie places his hands on Anna. "I'll need to take away any trace of the magic, including her memories." A purple cloud of smoke displays Anna and Elsa's fun times together while using her magic. They were ice skating, building snowmen, having snowball fights. She wouldn't remember any of it.
"Don't worry, I keep the fun." He erased her memories. Anna's eyes remain closed, but she smiles in her "sleep."
"So she won't remember I have powers?"
Pabbie's gaze falls on Elsa. "No, my dear. Your power will only grow."
He shows an image of grown Elsa, making snow flakes.
"There is beauty in it, but also great danger."
Enemies consume her in the image. Elsa gasps in shock and horror.
"You must learn to control it; fear will be your enemy."
"She will." Adgar says. "We'll protect her. She'll learn to control it. Until then, we'll close the gates. We'll lower the staff, and keep anyone from seeing her powers."
Elsa hugs her father tightly.
"Even Anna."
Soon after, Elsa moved out of their room and had her own one down the hall. She would never talk to Anna, and refused to play with her when she offered.
"Go away, Anna."
She wore gloves, hoping to conceal her power, and they grew stronger. Time passed with her living in isolation and fear.
Until the day that all changed.
