A/N:
Okay so it looks like I may have fibbed a bit on the updates starting April 12. No excuses to offer except for writer's block and finals week. My apologies, but from here, updates will now be biweekly. Enjoy the update!

Elsa glances up at Pitch in horror. "What are you saying, Pitch?"

Pitch's powers surround Elsa's, the room growing cold as the light leaves the room, frost and darkness taking its place. Even Elsa shivers a bit at the cold.

"When you were younger, Gerda told you about the story of the Boogeyman, remember? Who do you think that is?" Elsa's eyes widen in horror as she starts to remember the story that was told to her many years ago. "You...you're the Boogeyman?" She whispers softly, bringing Josef into her arms to protect him.

Pitch smirks a little softly, bowing a bit in mock humor. "Charmed to make your acquaintance." He adds in a slight accent for humor. Elsa frowns even more.

"So the deal we made- you weren't trying to be my friend at all?"

Pitch shakes his head. "You're not understanding me. I might be the Boogeyman, but I was forced into this position."

"What are you talking about?" Elsa asks softly, looking down at Josef as she said so. She noticed he was watching Pitch, his eyes wide with fear.

Pitch retracted his nightmares away from Josef and Elsa, the light returning all except for the space Pitch inhabited. "If you'll let me tell you the real story, you'll understand me and why I want your friendship."

And so Pitch began to tell the tale of his life before he was The Nightmare King. He begins by saying that when he was made into the spirit that inhabited children's nightmares, he had no idea who he was before. He only knew that he was turned into what he was by what he called "The Man in the Moon."

Elsa was confused by this, but he explained further. "He is a spirit that is supposed to protect children everywhere. He is believed to bear the gift of joy, and he shares this joy by creating Guardians who share more gifts with the world. Do you want to know what he decided to do though?"

Elsa shakes her head, shushing Josef who wanted down. She places him back into the floor with his toys.

Pitch runs a hand through his black hair, his golden eyes piercing into hers with a roaring anger. "Everything needs a balance, Elsa. In the brightest moments, darkness always lingers even if it's small. Before the Guardians existed, it was a dark time. There wasn't any hope, or wonder, or joy, or a time to remember happiness. So, he created me. He brought more darkness to the earth so he could create the balance to bring in goodness: the Guardians."

"So what you're saying is...he intentionally brought nightmares into the world to be able to create goodness?"

     "Yes."

Elsa was confused by this. How could a spirit be powerful enough to create good and evil spirits? Then again, she supposed, this could have been what had given her her powers.

"Wait," she said softly,"is this why I was born with powers? What do I have to do with any of this?"

Pitch shrugs. "I do not know why you were born with powers. I have never known of the Man in the Moon to grant a human that isn't a spirit powers. However," Pitch smiles at her,"I can help you...if you help me."

"We already made this deal years ago, Pitch. You see how your end of the deal has turned out."

"Ah, but you never kept your end of the deal, now did you? You weren't exactly a good friend or family member to anyone. May I remind you of your current situation with Anna?" Elsa sighs softly, tearing up at his words. He was right.

She huffs, turning to face him again. "Alright, if you help me with controlling my fear of my powers, I'll help you. What do you want?"

Pitch laughs sadistically, darkness spreading into the room again. "Simple. We take down the Guardians. Then the Man in the Moon will have to give me what I want back."

"What is it that he took from you that you want back?"

     "My daughter."

Elsa thought long and hard about how to handle this situation. She knew her friend, Jack, was made into a spirit by the Man in the Moon, though she didn't know who he was before. She had her suspicions, but she wanted to be sure. On top of that, she desperately needed solace in her life. Pitch could maybe grant her that. She knew that if someone had decided to take away Anna to turn Elsa into a spirit of destruction, she wouldn't be happy, either.

     "Where is your daughter?"

"She is a Guardian, too. However, she does not know I am her father. While being a Guardian has its perks, I want our old life back. I want my little girl back. Not what he made her to be."

"What did he make her to be?"

"Her real name is Katherine, the Guardian of Storytelling."
