Chapter Four

Knock, Knock!

"Come in!" the door opened a little and head popped through the small gap.

"Hey! Dad just got in and he wants you to go to his study right away!" as soon as Adam had delivered the information he was out of the door right away, good thing too, otherwise he would have seen the fear on my face, COME ON AL! MAN UP! He is your father after all what's the worst that could happen?

Umm...he could send you away again, he could ground you, take away your allowance and all the things that make you happy! A voice in my head replied.

SHUT UP VOICE! You are not helping! I scolded the voice.

Hey dumbass! You're telling yourself to shut up! I swear you can be really stupid sometimes!

HA! When you call me a dumbass it means you're calling yourself a dumbass! HA! Who's stupid now! See I out smarted you there, huh?! Winning the argument against the voice made me feel pretty good about myself but then it opened its fat mouth again.

Still you! Well done you out smarted yourself, what an achievement! What do you want a blue peter badge?!

Hmm...I've always wanted one of those, I wonder if they give those for out smarting yourself? I kept arguing with myself until a loud voice boomed through the entire house.

"ALMA LAMIA! COME DOWN HERE THIS SECOND YOUR FATHER WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH YOU!" CRAP I FORGOT ABOUT THAT! Rosa was one of the few people that insisted on always calling me Alma, she says that it's the name my parents gave to me and it has a beautiful meaning and by changing or altering it I'm changing the entire meaning of it!

"COMING!" I screamed back running out of the door and down the stairs, when I reached the big mahogany double doors that led to my dad's study I just stood there. I can't do this!

YES YOU CAN! The voice said.

What are you still doing here? I asked

Dude how many times do I have to explain this? I AM YOU! I WILL ALWAYS BE HERE!!! It exclaimed.

But dude it's still creep-A loud voice from the other side of the door cut me off.

"COME IN!" Damn how did he know I was here? I took one last breath, lifted my chin and pushed the door open. I stepped into the study and closed the door behind me, it looked exactly the same as it had looked the last time I was in here, a year and a half ago, the room was dark the only source of light coming from the fireplace behind the big mahogany desk. The walls were wooden too, the blinds were open, so you could see the beautiful moon and the clear sky, I wanted to walk out on to the balcony and just stand and stare up at the calm night sky, it was so beautiful. I quickly looked away from the glass slide door and returned my attention to the big, tanned man sitting behind the desk. My dad is one of those people that you could never ignore, no matter how hard you tried. He got the attention of lots of young girls and single mothers, he didn't look a day over 30, although he was actually 45, his blond hair and blue eyes made him look even younger. He attracted lots of women because he was handsome, rich and single! My mum died when I was a kid so I didn't know her and there aren't any pictures of her around the house either and dad never and I mean NEVER talked about her. Dad did date whenever he had time off work but everyone he ever dated knew he had money so they never worked out properly ESPECIALLY after they hear how many kids he has! One thing about our relationship is that although I cause a lot of trouble I still helped him out whenever he brings someone home it meant he wanted to get rid of them and I got to work! I wonder how he's been getting rid of the unwanted ones while I wasn't here.

"Hey dad!" I smile confidently even though I felt anything but.

"Alma how was your trip?" he asked, yeah like you care!

"It was fine!" I replied.

"Well, I hope we do not have to ever put up with that kind of humiliation you put the family through ever again! If anyone happens to ask you were you have been you are to say you went to boarding school, you understand?" I nodded a little hurt at what he had said, but I didn't let it show. He sighed and dragged a tanned hand through his medium length blond hair before relaxing into his big chair. "Sit down." I went to a chair opposite his desk and sat in it cross legged, he shook his head at the way I was sitting "Can't you sit like a lady?" he raised an eyebrow almost as if he was amused.

"I don't know, I probably could, if I wanted, but I like sitting like this!"

"Young lady don't answer back!" all signs of amusement gone from his face. He sighed and carried on "So how was it at Oakington Manor?" was he really asking that question? I wanted to jump up and say, it is a reform school! How do you think it was?! But I decided I wanted to get out of this room as soon as possible and arguing would only make my time in here longer than it needed to be, so I went with the simple "Fine."

"Good" he replied, good? Is that all he could say to his daughter that he hadn't seen in a year?! He sighed again as if he wanted to say something but didn't quite know how to go about it so I rolled my eyes and prodded him to go on.

"Come on dad spit it out!" He looked a little shocked at first and then the right corner of his lip lifted slightly, now it was my turn to be shocked, was that an attempt at a smile? I asked myself.

Mmmhmmm...I believe it was, do you think he's feeling alright?

I don't know maybe I should check his temperature?

Before I could carry on with my further questioning dad spoke up "after the...'incident'...anything else out of the ordinary happen to you?" What is he talking about, how did he now about any of that? Should I tell him? Maybe he could help me out...because I think I am going crazy and maybe not, I think I'll take the mick for a bit!

"Well dad if by anything weird you mean, have I had the urge to burn anyone else to a crisp then no, but technically I haven't burnt anyone to a crisp before in my life only singed, OH WAIT!" I slapped myself in the forehead "That wasn't me!" I smirked, HA! Take that old man!

"Alma" he warned "You know what I mean!"

"No I'm not sure I do father" I said innocently.

"Please Alma I want to help you."

"Wow, dad you almost sounded like you cared then!" I smirked.

"Is that what you think? That I don't care about you?" he raised an eyebrow at me.

"Well you haven't given me reason to think otherwise" I muttered looking down at the dark wooden floor and he LAUGHED! Can you believe it he actually LAUGHED! He had the nerve to LAUGH about this! I looked up at him disbelieving that he could be so heartless towards one of his own children.

"Honey" he said as soon as he'd gotten over the giggles, honey? "I know I have neglected you kids but please do not think for one second that I don't care."

"Well dad you have the weirdest way of showing it!"

"I know I am always working but-" I cut him off.

"You're always working?!" I exclaimed, did he really think that this is what it was about? "Dad you are seriously deluded if you think this has anything to do with work!" I was now out of my seat, shaking with fury, the weird thing is my dad actually looked sad, it kind of made me feel bad, "NO! YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT!" I shouted "You're not allowed to pretend like you're sad about any of this! You think I don't know that you HAVE to work?" I questioned "Do you think I am that spoilt that I don't know that everything I have is because you worked hard for it?! No dad work isn't the reason I'm angry!"
