Jeff's pov.

I sat behind the oak tree, glancing at the front door of Liara's school occasionally.

The oak was the spot Liara always chose to eat lunch underneath.

Slam.

The door crashed shut as Liara exited. She paced through the grass and made her way to her spot, unknowing my presence.

I tapped her on the shoulder. Her reaction was a shudder, obviously startled. That was unlike her. Something was different. Her hands were shaking and her eyes were somewhat blank. Taking her hand, I asked her. "Something wrong?" I meant it as more of a statement then a question.

"No." She pulled her hand back.

"You can tell me."

"..everything's fine."

"Liara, I know somethings wrong. You can't hide it from me." I frowned.

"Everything's fine." She repeated.

"Why can't you tell me." I was starting to get angry at the fact that she refused to tell me what was bothering her. She was hiding something.

Though she remained silent.

I frowned and she crossed her arms, leaning against the oak.

I heard the front door creak open and close. "Liara?! Are you out here?" A male voice called.

I immediately slid my hood over my head.

The uncoordinated footsteps got closer. A boy with curly blonde hair peeked around the tree. "Liara I was looking everywhere for you. I saw you this morning but you weren't at lunch today."

"I wanted to get some fresh air, Caleb.." She lied. Caleb smiled and pulled her in for a hug. Liara was unmoving.

My mind was suddenly engulfed in flames. I didn't like the smug look on his face, nor the way he held Liara. In an instant, I had Caleb by the collar and was slamming him against the tree. "Don't touch her." I growled, ready to distort his face.

Liara wiggled her way between us and tried to pry me off Caleb. "Jeff. Leave him alone."

I frowned and dropped him, shoving my hands into my pockets.

***********

"Jeff. . Just cut it out for once." Her voice sounded tortured, just how I liked it. Yet it stung me.

No answer.

She was silent. I remained silent. The room reflected our emptiness.

Finally I broke the silence.

"What's bothering you, is it me.."

"It's not you, Jeff.. ..Its. ." She paused. "It's me. ."

"It's not you."

"I can never escape. ." She looked off into the distance.

"You will escape." I assured her, and with that I turned and disappeared out her window, not looking back. I didn't want to see her face looking back at me, the sadness evacuating through her eyes and pouring back into her heart. Most of all, I didn't want to think twice.

I would finally give her, her escape.
