The UNSC Pelican began it's decent into the canyon. The frail trees, shrubs and dry grass bent and twisted from the force of the wind as it touched down.

"Here we are." The pilot said, gesturing outside of the aircraft. "Blood Gulch." He sounded bored, as if he'd drawn the short straw when Command asked him to take her.

"Thankyou for flying me out here." Y/N said politely, picking up her bag and beginning to exit.

The pilot gave an unconvincing smile and began to start the engines. "Red base is that way!" He shouted over the noise of the turbines, as he pointed to the right.

Y/N waved up at him before beginning her walk. The canyon was warm and dull, rocks and dirt made up ninety percent of the scenery. It was so barren, she was almost afraid it was another prank. Y/N had been subject to a lot of cruel pranks for being the worst in her medical school class. Even when she was accepted for a medic position at Command, she was still just a joke. Paranoia began to spread from the pit of her stomach like an infectious disease.

Then she saw it; red base. At least she guessed it was. It was a huge, round concrete building with red lights and accents. Though through one window there were pink, lacy curtains...

"Hello?" Y/N called out as she stood in front of the base's door.

"Hello?" A thick southern voice replied. Y/N looked up to see a spartan soldier in red armour standing on top of the base. "Who are you?"

"I'm the new medic. My name is Y/N L/N. I'm here to assist the injured soldier." She answered.

"Well little lady, how do I know you're not a blue spy?" He questioned, accusingly.

"Because Command called you earlier to confirm my arrival." She answered, this guy was an idiot.

A maroon soldier appeared beside him. "Sir, she is right." He said. "Her ETA was almost completely accurate." Y/N guessed from his authority the red one was the outpost's Commanding Officer.

"Dagnabit Simmons! Fine!" The red one grumbled. "What's the password?" He added slyly, turning his attention back to the medic below him.

"Is it... Password?" Y/N guessed.

"Welcome to red base missy!" The Sargent exclaimed, much happier. He must have ran down the ramp because he appeared at the base's 'front door' in a matter of moments. "Come along now, Grif won't die by himself!" He sounded way too casual about what he'd just said. Y/N followed him hesitantly into the building.

"Oh. My. Gosh." A chipper voice came from behind the duo. "You're here!" Y/N turned to see a pink soldier running at her. He wrapped her in a tight hug and squealed. "Nobody tells me anything, I've been waiting for hours!"

"F-for me?" Y/N asked, patting his back softly.

"Oh of course silly! It's been forever since I've had a gal pal." He let go and composed himself. "Where are my manners? I'm Franklin Delano Donut!"

"Donut! We don't have time for your shenanigans." His CO scolded. "Actually, the longer Grif waits in agonising pain, the less chance he has to survive! Keep stalling her Donut."

"Stalling? No Sarge, it's called hospitality." Donut corrected.

"I'd really like to see the my patient now." Y/N insisted.

Sarge groaned. "Fine."
