After the Russians started expanding their beachheads, many citizens took it upon themselves to defend their towns, their homes, and their very way of life. Most of the resistance from the cities closer to the coasts was futile, disorganized and unprepared at best. The Russian invasion had come as a complete surprise due to the revolution. The government hadn't warned anybody. Precision munitions, mainly guided missiles and batteries from offshore warships, obliterated most of the east and west coast. The Russians rapidly advanced far beyond the coasts; deep into Nevada, South Carolina, and even Arizona.

But, fortunately, our story begins far from the front lines, in a little town called Madison, deep in the heart of Mississippi. Madison had little to show for almost 70 years of existence; that quickly changed when Nissan opened a new automotive plant just north of the small town. Wal-Mart, Kroger, and workers soon followed. The small town soon turned into a bustling city, even earning a place on the Top Ten Places in The US to retire. The Coon Soldiers traces its beginnings to Madison as a young group of kids playing airsoft on the weekends. Most of them had dreams of one day enlisting in the Military. Many of them spent their weekdays in school or pouring over the latest issue of Tactical Magazine. A common dream of the boys was to, one day, be featured in the Magazines "Tacticool" kid of the week. But the Russian invasion changed their dreams. The boys; too young to fight, yet too old to recycle like the younger boys only had a few options. They could continue on their lives as best they could, ignoring the situation around them. Or they could train for the chance to be accepted into the military. They spent many a summer night fantasizing about running away to Alaska; sneaking away on military trains to join their brothers in arms.

Then Alaska fell.

It was the first time in over 80 years that US soil had been taken. The boys were furious; and frustrated. Why can't we help? Why can't we fight? Those were just some of the questions running through the boys mind that depressive summer.

The answer to their prayers came in the form of a official declaration straight from Kansas; The new capitol of the US.

The letter was written as follows.

Dear Citizens of America. Each state must raise a militia with citizens from the age of 16-25. Each Militiaman must be given a weapon and gear. Each Militiaman must receive adequate training in marksmanship and in survival. Then each citizen shall report to his designated sector.

-The President of the United State of America

The boys were ecstatic. As soon as the news got out every one of the boys was jumping, grabbing, and singing the National Anthem in joy. Now they could finally have a chance at fighting back.

The war was on for the citizens of Mississippi.
