Chapter three:
Last night, after my conversation with Johnny I went down to the barn and slept next to Bibbie. She is my best friend, even though she is a horse, she is smart and she is the best listener I know. I lay next to her, and the barn is quiet, I hear the sound of the wind, and hay poking at my skin.
“ Bibbie, want to go to town?” I asked. She started to move around, and I rolled away before she stepped on me. I stood up laughing, and led her out of the barn. I got on her, and we were off. Today was rather windy, and I looked up at the sky. It was starting to turn dark, think there is gonna be a down pour. Havent had a rain for about four months. A little drizzle here and there, but nothing really. The earth can really use it.We rode through the forest, and Bibbie and I started down the only path there was towards town. As we go further away from the woods, the sound of children, adults, horns, bells, and all the shops sound came too. The sight of the town came into view, and there were not a lot of people today compared to most days. I slowed Bibbie down, and we rode along the dirt road, passing people.
“ Ava,” Someone said. I turned my head, and saw Rodie leaning up against a tree. Old friend I use to play with when I was a child, making mud pies and what not. He was a horrible mud pie maker.
“ Hey Rodie,” I said bringing Bibbie to a stop, and I hopped off of her, and walked her over towards Rodie. “ Were is Dolly?” I asked. Dolly is one of his horses that he loves, its his. A little older than Bibbie.
“ I have her down the road, in a barn. Don’t want her to be on display,” he said.
“ Why not?”
“ The soldiers, they’ll try to take her,” he said shaking his head. “ I’m surprised you still got Bibbie, they are taking everything from everyone.”
“ Not me, I don’t support the war, not at all. They tried taking my Bibbie, but I wouldn’t let that happen.”
“ how did you get them to not take her?” He asked looking at me confused.
“Threatening, telling em I don’t support the war, and I wont take any part in it,” I shrugged patting Bibbie’s back.
“ They could have killed you.”
“ Almost did,” I said. The sound of footsteps grew louder, and Rodie and I both turned around and saw the soldiers coming towards the town. “ Rodie, I got to get out of here with Bibbie,” I said getting on her.
“ I’ll meet you over by the grass land, some racing?” he asked. I nodded my head.
“ See you there,” I said, and I took had Bibbie start running before those damned soldiers came.
The town started to become smaller, and three dirt roads came into view. Taking the one all the way to the right will bring you to the grass land, middle one is homes, and the left, if you go real far down, and just keep going, you’ll hit the mountains. It’s about six hours away, no one ever takes that path. I started down the right path, and the sound of Bibbie’s hooves hitting against the ground, it was peacefull. I kicked my feet, and Bibbie started to go faster. We were going fast, her and I. My hair was whipping in back of me, and in felt my cheeks start to become red, from the wind.
We rode for about twenty minutes, until the grass land came into view. I had Bibbie slow down getting off of her, and laid on the grass. The grass was cold, and felt amazing against my skin.
“ You can walk around Bibbie,” I said. She then walked away from me, exploring the large area we were in. I laid on the grass looking up at the sky, and put my hands in back of my neck. The sky was dancing with dark shades, and I saw lightening in the sky. I squinted my eyes. I thought it was thunder, that’s what it sounded like. I laid there squinting at the sky, and than heard a horse approaching. I sat up, and saw a big heap of red hair. I smiled.
